Bṛhat signs MoU with SWAYAM Plus to launch courses on Indian Knowledge Systems

Bṛhat, an Indic organization dedicated to revitalizing Bharat’s civilizational heritage, has reached a significant milestone by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with SWAYAM Plus. This partnership will bring select courses focused on Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) to the platform, marking Bṛhat’s official entry into the IKS sector on the SWAYAM Plus platform.

SWAYAM Plus, an initiative under the Ministry of Education, offers a range of courses across 12 key sectors, including IKS. The inclusion of IKS as a distinct sector highlights its growing importance in the Indian economy and skill market. Through this partnership, Bṛhat aims to elevate IKS from a specialized “market skill” to a foundational element of education across all sectors.

On their X handle, Brhat wrote, “Our courses will focus on instilling a civilizational perspective as part of national strategy, facilitating the flourishing of the individual.”

The courses developed by Bṛhat will focus on instilling a deep understanding of Bharat’s rich knowledge repository, with texts such as the Nātyaśāstra, Tarkaśāstra, Yogasūtra, and Aṣṭādhyāyī forming part of the curriculum. The organization’s ambitious vision is that within the next 15 years, no child in Bharat should complete their education without being familiarized with these foundational texts and the country’s Itihāsa-Purāṇa.

About SWAYAM Plus

The ‘SWAYAM Plus’ platform, led by Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan was launched on February 27, 2024. Operated by IIT Madras, the platform offers industry-collaborated courses aimed at enhancing employability and professional development for both students and working professionals. With contributions from major industry players like L&T, Microsoft, and CISCO, SWAYAM Plus provides job-centric, hands-on learning opportunities in sectors such as Manufacturing, IT, Healthcare, and Indian Knowledge Systems, among others.

The platform aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, emphasizing flexibility through multiple entry and exit points, enabling lifelong learning. SWAYAM Plus also supports skill development through credit-recognized courses, with credits recorded in students’ academic banks. It is multilingual and features an AI-enabled chatbot to help learners select courses tailored to their needs.

SWAYAM Plus is positioned as a vital tool for upskilling and reskilling, catering to the growing demand for trained manpower in various industries. The initiative aims to make education more accessible and relevant, thereby contributing to India’s knowledge economy and preparing learners for the evolving job market.

Moving IKS from a niche area of study to a core component of education will require significant effort, but it also has the potential to fundamentally reshape the educational landscape in India. As Bṛhat takes this leap into the Indian Knowledge Systems sector, the organization is poised to play a key role in ensuring that future generations are not only skilled but also deeply rooted in the cultural and intellectual heritage of Bhārata.
