A case of forced religious conversion involving a Hindu girl was reported from Madhya Pradesh’s (MP) Jabalpur. Telangana native Sheikh Ahmed befriended an 18-year-old Hindu girl on social media and lured her into a ‘romantic’ relationship.
He subsequently married the girl via video call and later took her to Hyderabad, where she was forcibly converted to Islam. The incident came to light when the 18-year-old girl from the Tilwara police station area went missing on April 29.
Her family filed a missing person report, prompting the police to launch a search. Through the girl’s call records, the police discovered that she frequently communicated with Sheikh Ahmed from Telangana. Further investigation revealed that Sheikh Ahmed had arrived in Jabalpur on April 29. The police later traced both their phones and discovered that they had travelled to Hyderabad via Nagpur and Karimpur. The police then went to Hyderabad and recovered the girl. Sheikh Ahmed was arrested for forcing the girl into marriage, and a case was filed against him under the Madhya Pradesh Religious Freedom Act.
