Policemen in boots inside Vadakkumnathan Temple during Thrissur Pooram

A Janmabhumi report from Thrissur, Kerala, showed police officers wearing boots entering the circumambulation path of Vadakkumnathan temple. The High Court has ordered that footwear should not be worn inside the temple during Pooram. It was during this period that the police officers violated the order.

One of the devotees complained about this. The pictures of the police team wearing footwear inside the wall of Vadakkumnathan temple have come out. A team led by City Police Commissioner Ankit Ashokan IPS was allowed inside wearing shoes.

This incident came as criticism against the Kerala Police for how the Thrissur Pooram is conducted. The Thiruvambadi Sri Krishna Temple representatives suspended their celebrations last night due to the police’s excessive use of force. This is the first time in history that such an incident has happened.

Later, the organizers and Pooram fans protested against the police. Thiruvambadi Devaswom’s president stated that the police’s unnecessary interference is the root of the problems.

Thiruvambadi temple decided not to participate in fireworks but changed its mind after discussions led by Minister K. Rajan. The fireworks, which were supposed to begin at 3 a.m., started at 7 a.m. By then, we had first light. Festival lovers only get the chance to enjoy the sound of fireworks.

People from all walks of life gather to celebrate Thrissur Pooram, a temple festival marked by devotion, elephants, music, processions, and fireworks. It is a seven-day event; the sixth day is regarded as the most significant. It is celebrated in the month of Medam in Malayalam when the moon rises in tandem with the Pooram star.

Do we need such Abrahamics or insensitive police officers to guard our temples? Do they protect or desecrate?

  1. The question is who was behind sabotaging this year’s Pooram.
Do you know the involvement of P Balsi, the MLA of Thrissur? In January, he made a derogatory abusive poem on Bhagavan Sri Ram and was forced to delete it and apologize when the people protested.
The Kolam of Bhagavan Sri Ram irked most of the Commies. So they decided to spoil the function.
