On April 19, 2024, Rohit, a Hindu YouTuber, was brutally attacked by a few Islamist youths in Mysuru, Karnataka, for singing a song in praise of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The assault, accompanied by degrading actions, including being pelted with cigarettes and beer bottles, occurred near a government guest house. The victim, hailing from Mellahalli village, was targeted for his composition applauding the prime minister.
Based on the reports from OpIndia, the victim, while sharing a link to his song with a fellow youth near a guest house, faced objection from some individuals within the group who proceeded to attack him and subject him to derogatory treatment. Additionally, he was coerced into chanting slogans in favor of Pakistan. The Nazarbad Police intervened to rescue the severely injured Rohit from the assailants and promptly provided him with medical attention.
In recounting the incident, the YouTuber explained, “I had recently released a song praising PM Modi and was sharing my channel link, urging others to subscribe. Unbeknownst to me, one of the individuals nearby was Muslim. Upon my invitation to watch the song, share, and subscribe, he initially appeared supportive. However, upon entering a room with him, I was immediately accosted and silenced. They proceeded to verbally abuse me for my song about Prime Minister Modi, demanded that I shout ‘Pakistan Zindabad,’ and even subjected me to physical assault, molestation, and humiliation.”According to the victim, he was subjected to torture involving cigarettes and beer bottles.
Mysuru Police Commissioner Ramesh emphasized the need for a thorough investigation, stating, “We are in the process of verifying the details of the incident. Should the victim file a formal complaint, we will promptly act upon it. The presence of CCTV cameras at the government guest house will aid in our investigation.”
Mysuru police stated that they were in the process of verifying Rohit’s statements and assured that they would soon provide details regarding the sequence of events. They mentioned examining the CCTV footage at the guest house and conducting further investigation into the matter.
