Mohd Riyaz arrested for sexual & mental harassment of a widowed Hindu woman; flashed private parts in a video call: UP

In a disturbing incident from Pilibhit district in Uttar Pradesh, a Muslim man named Mohammad Riyaz behaved inappropriately with a Hindu widow, Saraswati Devi. Saraswati had gone to Riyaz’s shop to get her bed repaired. Instead of helping her, Riyaz complimented her and then flashed his private parts to her during a video call.

Saraswati, upset by this behaviour, lodged a complaint against Riyaz at the Gajraula police station. She stated that on May 6, she visited Sattar Welding Materials to fix her bed. After some time, Riyaz called her and asked for a video call to see the bed. During the call, he made inappropriate comments and then flashed his private parts. Saraswati was shocked and ended the call.

Riyaz continued to call Saraswati and harass her mentally. Saraswati recorded one of these calls as evidence. The police took action based on Saraswati’s complaint and arrested Riyaz. He has been charged under IPC sections 354A (sexual harassment) and 509 (insulting modesty of women).

The Superintendent of Police in Pilibhit confirmed Riyaz’s arrest and stated that he had been presented in court. Further investigations are underway.
