A Hindu temple was attacked and razed by Islamists in Tando Adam’s Hindu Kachhi Colony, District Sanghar, Sindh. This is the third attack in a month in the same city. Prior to this, two Hindu temples were looted and robbed in Tando Adam.
All the walls around the temple were broken, and idols, flags, religious scriptures, and many valuables were stolen. The Hindu Om symbol was also erased as the Muslim individuals responsible for the demolition of the temple tried to build a house there.
The priest of the temple expressed deep grief over the incident, stressing the cultural and spiritual significance of the temple to local Hindus. “This attack has saddened our community,” he said. “Destroying our temple and stealing our sacred objects is an insult to our faith and heritage.” In a similar incident, unidentified attackers looted and vandalized a Hindu Mata temple in Gherni village, Mithi too.
The attackers who broke into the holy site, desecrated it, and fled with money and valuables have deeply saddened the local Hindu community. The attack took place in the early morning, and the attackers are believed to be Islamic extremists who have no respect for the sanctity of the religious site. The local Hindu community, already living in an atmosphere of fear and insecurity, immediately lodged an FIR with the police.
Despite this, there is widespread doubt about whether justice will be served, as the police have often shown apathy in such incidents. These attacks are not isolated cases but a continuation of disturbing incidents of religious intolerance and violence against minority Hindu communities in other parts of Sindh, Pakistan. The incident underlines the urgent need to enhance security measures to ensure the safety of minority communities. Human rights activists have condemned these attacks and demanded immediate action to protect religious minorities and their places of worship.
In 2023, it came to light that historic temples in Pakistan were being used as a chicken shop and some temples were vandalised during festivals.
