“A Hindu community in Peterborough has secured an early legal victory in its attempt to prevent the sale of its temple building to an Islamic mosque organization, marking the first stage in what could become a significant legal dispute over the future of the religious site.
The conflict centers on the New England Complex, a property owned by Peterborough City Council that currently houses the Bharat Hindu Samaj temple. The council recently voted to sell the complex as part of a broader effort to address millions of pounds in municipal debt. However, the decision has triggered strong opposition from the Hindu community that has long used the building as its place of worship.
High Court Intervention
In response to the proposed sale, the temple community initiated legal proceedings. High Court judge Mr Justice Fordham has now granted a temporary injunction, effectively pausing the sale process while the court considers arguments from both sides……”
