That further persecution and rape of Hindu population in Bangladesh was going to continue under Nobel laureate and west’s stooge Mohammed Yunus became clear on Aug 16, when he talked to Prime Minister Modi and called allegations of attacks on minorities in Bangladesh “exaggerated” and chided Modi by terming Islamist takeover of Bangladesh, accompanied by rape of Hindu population, as its “second revolution”.
By the time Yunus was talking to Modi, it was amply clear that the primary feature of this “second revolution” was ethnic cleansing and massacre of Hindus of Bangladesh. Modi got the message and rang up Yunus’ real boss Joe Biden, raising the issue of protecting minorities in Bangladesh, a point which was ignored in American readout. Yunus got emboldened and lifted the ban over Jammat and started to force unbiased Judges to resign.
Washington did not bat an eyelid. Just like in 1971, Hindus of Bangladesh are a collateral damage in American scheme of things. In 1971, it was all about making China happy. This time, it is all about surrounding China. India has been counted out of the game because we did not promise to open up a second front against China in event of an invasion of Taiwan, something Americans asked for early this year.
Casualty in this high table global game is India’s primacy in its immediate neighbourhood. It is not about whether we can have a working relationship with new dispensation in Dhaka, something mandarins in South Block remain obsessed with. The thing to worry about is whether we can allow an octogenarian interim puppet like Yunus to get away with talking down the third time Prime Minister of world’s largest democracy and rebuffing him by calling ethnic cleansing of Hindus as “second revolution”?
If we are going to allow this, then the Operation Searchlight becomes first revolution by default! Economic interests are going to remain where they are. But India needs to demonstrate to the World and more particularly to the Western leaders that we and not they are the primary stakeholders in this region. We are the nodal country here. Things move through our offices and not directly. Otherwise it is not going to be ‘Indo-Pacific’. It is not even going to be the ‘Indian Subcontinent’ in few decades.
We also need to demonstrate that we are the ultimate protectors of Hindu populace anywhere in the world just like Israel is for Jews. We did that in December 1971. But we just did not follow up and Hindu population of Bangladesh halved since then . If this time we do not get our act together, it is going to be worse. In next two decades, Hindu population of Bangladesh will be wiped out.
There will be thousands of Utsav Mondals. We will loose our stakes there. World will see that India cannot impose its will on countries like Bangladesh even with regard to legitimate causes. Others will follow the suit. From being 21st century’s pivotal nation-state, we will be reduced to being a confused buffer state between US and China as they divide our immediate neighbourhood in their spheres of influence.
And last but not the least: we will be having two Pakistans…..yet again. So, our geopolitical status is going to be decided by what we do in Bangladesh and not what we do about Russia-Ukraine thing, where Zelensky reacted in uncivilized manner and Putin has clubbed us with Brazil and China regarding our peace efforts and where Atlanticists have started it and they are the ones who are going to stop it as and when they want.
We need to first put our house and our neighborhood in order. We need to remember that India’s geopolitical status got sealed not by Nehru’s peace efforts in Korean War or by his non-alignment speeches at Bandung Conference but how we fared in 1962 war.
