How Hinduphobic anti-Bharat forces are being fostered in Canada

In recent times, there has been a spurt in the attacks on Hindu Mandirs in Canada by Khalistanis who have coopted with Islamists who are equally Hinduphobic if not more. An analysis by India Facts delves deep into how Islamists and Khalistanis of Canada are spreading Hinduphobic and anti-Bharat propaganda.

Muslims form five per cent of Canada’s approximately 40 million population and one-third of the country’s Muslims are from ‘South Asia’ (Bharat, Pakistan, and Bangladesh). The Sikh population in Canada has witnessed a similar growth to its Muslim counterpart in the past two decades. There are 18 Sikh MPs in the Canadian Parliament.

It would be an understatement to say that the Sikhs have political clout in view of the fact that Canadian PM Trudeau was forced to water down a 2018 report by the country’s intelligence agency listing Khalistanis as one of the top five terrorist threats in Canada. It is a bigger travesty that Sikhs are ready to forget their historical enmity with Muslims, who have driven them out of Pakistan and Afghanistan very recently, only because of their new-found desire to distance themselves from their Hindu roots.

The emails sent to Hindu groups, by the National Council of Canadian Muslims (NCCM) claiming to be a ‘nonprofit, non-partisan, grassroots human rights, civil liberties and advocacy organization’, need to be seen in this light.

The emails were strategically sent on a Friday giving a 48-hour window to Hindu organizations to ‘disagree and propose changes’. It is also noteworthy that the report was jointly written by the World Sikh Organization (WSO). A part of the email reads:

Hi there,

We are a Muslim advocacy and human rights organization here in Canada. We are reaching out to inform you that we are about to launch (March 1st) a report about the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and its influence in Canada. (The report is jointly written with the World Sikh Organization)

In the report, we make mention (fill in the name of the Hindu organization) extensively, as a part of the Sangh Parivar network that helps push the RSS worldview internationally.

We want to share this section of the report with you before our launch date. You will have 48hrs to read this section and to propose any changes. Every point we make is sourced, as represented by the numbers. If you like, we can show you the sources as well.

The point is to give you time to perhaps disagree and propose changes. After the 48hr window, we will launch the report.

These are well-practised tactics employed by Hinduphobic groups including Muslims, Christians, Left/Marxists, Sikhs, and Dalits. The Indian American Muslim Council (IAMC) and the Federation of Indian American Christian Organizations (FIACONA) are other organizations that released similar ‘reports’ in the recent past. Such reports as also summits and conferences aimed at ‘dismantling Hindutva’ are aimed at provoking anti-Hindu sentiments and putting Hindus on the back foot in the countries where the reports are released or conferences are conducted.

Despite all its claims of being ‘non-partisan’, NCCM has indulged in radical Islamist activism from the beginning and its focus has always been on demonizing Hindus and Jews. It was initially known as Canadian Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-CAN) and was closely associated with Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR).

It must be pointed out that CAIR has been historically linked to terrorism and has been listed by the UAE (United Arabs Emirates) as one of the 83 criminal terrorist organizations along with ISIS, Al Qaeda, and Taliban among others. Former PM of Canada Stephen Harper had accused NCCM (CAIR-CAN) of having links to terrorism.

NCCM’s ‘action alerts’ with regard to Bharat and Hindus are “BJP Leadership and Ethnic Cleansing Measures in India” and “Send a Letter to Minister Mary Ng on Trade Agreement with the Indian government”. If they were truly non-partisan and cared about human rights, they would have raised the issue of Hindu persecution in Muslim-majority countries like Pakistan and Bangladesh.

In fact, they have not even spoken a word on the recent violence and terrorist acts against Hindus by Khalistanis in the US, Canada, and Australia. WSO, with whom NCCM has joined hands, is yet another organization pushing extremist agenda under the garb of a ‘non-profit human rights organization’. This depicts how easy it is for Hinduphobic organizations to disguise themselves as a ‘human rights organization’ while actually peddling radical Islamist agenda.

“The recent ‘referendum‘ in Canada, organized by the Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) seeking the ‘carving out a separate country from Punjab’ was accompanied by the defacing of a Hindu temple and anti-India graffiti. The provocation was such that the Indian High Commission asked the Canadian authorities to investigate the incident. The Canadian Government should be launching a serious investigation of the major Sikh organizations in Canada and find out who are involved in the Khalistan separatist movement and how they are collecting and using funds to provoke Canadian Hindus and/or threaten them”, writes India Facts’ Dr Ramesh Rao.

Hindus have become convenient targets in Western countries with identifiable Hindu immigrant communities and substantial Muslim immigrant populations. Islamists are joining hands with other extremists such as Khalistanis. This is not a random accusation and the work by Harvard professor Samuel Huntington, the book by Christopher Caldwell titled, “Reflections on the Revolution in Europe: Immigration, Islam and the West,” and the works by Princeton professor Bernard Lewis, who, in an interview with the Pew Research Center had correctly surmised that the “relationship between Islam and the West will be a defining feature of the 21st century back up the claim.

However, when concerns about Islamist and other extremism are brushed aside by ‘liberal’, secular’, and ‘progressive’ groups. This is so because Muslim organizations have succeeded in putting up a facade of ‘liberalism’, ‘secularism’, ‘progressivism’, ‘human rights’, and ‘civil liberties’.

It is the duty of the Hindu community and organizations in the US and Canada to raise their voices against the new Islamist-Khalistani threat. The Hinduphobic anti-Bharat forces being nurtured in Canada are a threat not just to Bharat, Hindus and Hindu Dharma but also to world order.
