“Jaish-e-Mohammed commander Masood Ilyas Kashmiri has made a fresh admission, saying that Maulana Masood Azhar, head of Jaish, was behind the 2001 attack on the Indian Parliament and the 2008 Mumbai attacks. Kashmiri also identified Jaish bases in Balakot and Bahawalpur, alleging that operations directed by Masood Azhar were launched from Balakot’s territory.
Kashmiri further claimed that during “Operation Sindhur” the Pakistani military ordered senior officers to attend the funerals of militants killed in Jaish camps at Bahawalpur. He alleged that the Director General of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) sought to suppress the links between Bahawalpur and Jaish-e-Mohammed.
Kashmiri said that Operation Sindhur created widespread fear among militant outfits. From the platform he called for unity of various extremist groups under a campaign he termed “Mission-e-Mustafa” (a purportedly religious campaign in the Muhammad Paigambar’s name). He said some had abandoned jihad, but he intended to keep the cause alive with the remaining supporters……..”
