One-Sided Peace: The Dangers of Hindus’ Goodwill Towards Muslims in Bharat

As an average Hindu deeply concerned about the safety and future of Hindu civilization, the recent incidents of communal dynamics in Bharat highlight a troubling imbalance. On one hand, Hindus continue to extend gestures of goodwill toward the Muslim community, often in the name of fostering harmony. On the other hand, these efforts are met with hostility during Hindu festivals, raising serious concerns about the sustainability of such one-sided peace initiatives.

Acts of Goodwill: A Double-Edged Sword

The Jaipur Flower-Showering Incident

In Jaipur, Rajasthan, Hindus participated in Eid celebrations by showering flowers on Muslims at the Eidgah on Delhi Road. This act, organized under the Hindu-Muslim Unity Committee, symbolized unity and mutual respect. Videos captured Hindu men donning saffron scarves and distributing flowers to thousands of Muslims gathered for prayers led by Khalid Usmani, Rajasthan’s Chief Qazi. While such gestures are ‘heartwarming,’ they often fail to elicit reciprocal actions from the Muslim community during Hindu festivals.

Iftar Events Hosted by Hindus

Hindus have consistently gone out of their way to promote communal harmony during Ramadan. Temples in Kerala’s Malappuram district hosted mass Iftar parties for Muslims, showcasing interfaith harmony. Similarly, Tamil Nadu has upheld a tradition spanning over four decades where Hindus serve Iftar meals to Muslims during Ramadan. In Karnataka, a Hindu shrine organized an Iftar event with the message that “no religion propagates hatred”

Individual contributions

Individual efforts also reflect this ethos of goodwill. Neha Bharti, a Hindu woman in Delhi, has served 250 Iftar meals daily at the Jama Masjid for three years. In Mumbai’s Malad area, Hindu women prepared traditional sweets like puran poli and naralachi vadi for Iftar gatherings. These acts demonstrate personal commitment to fostering unity but raise questions about whether such gestures are reciprocated.

Even in the Islamist state of Pakistan, Hindus try to extend the olive branch to Islamists by conducting Iftar treats. Young Hindu volunteers use their pocket money and donations to feed hundreds of fasting Muslims in Karachi during Ramadan. Such acts of harmony in the country, however, come against the backdrop of persecution of Hindus, including kidnapping and forcible conversions of Hindu girls (even minors), discrimination, blasphemy allegations, fines, death and life sentences.

The Dark Reality: Attacks on Hindus

But the reality is starkly different. Reports have documented numerous attacks on Hindus during their religious celebrations:

Navratri Procession Attacked: In Darbhanga, Bihar, Islamists pelted stones at a Navratri procession in March 2025. Devotees returning from the Durga Mandir following the Kalash Shobha Yatra were subjected to an unprovoked attack as Islamists began hurling stones at them. The assault created chaos, especially among women and children, who screamed in fear and ran for cover. Islamists, who had already gathered on the roof to await the Shobha Yatra, reportedly carried out the attack.

Diwali hostility: In Khambhalia, Gujarat, Hindus celebrating Diwali faced violent retaliation from Muslim mobs. On 2nd March, a Hindu family in Khambhalia, Devbhumi Dwarka, was allegedly attacked by a group of four Muslim men for bursting crackers in the courtyard of Shrinathji Haveli. The accused in the matter have been identified as Maqsood, Tausif, Moin, and Phoolkand. According to media reports, they objected to the celebrations, citing Ramzan. The accused physically assaulted the victims during the altercation and injured two, including a minor. The injured were rushed to the hospital for treatment.

OpIndia has made a detailed compilation of series of attacks on Hindus all over the country, where they discuss 24 incidents from the year 2024 to 2005, wherein Hindus celebrating Diwali were attacked by Islamists using trivial excuses or in a blatant demonstration of their hate for the Kafirs.

Bangladesh Attacks: Internationally, Hindus have faced violence during Diwali celebrations in Bangladesh. Sending Diwali greetings, former president Donald Trump, who is the Republican presidential candidate, on Thursday condemned the attack on Hindus in Bangladesh. “I strongly condemn the barbaric violence against Hindus, Christians, and other minorities who are getting attacked and looted by mobs in Bangladesh, which remains in a total state of chaos,” Trump said in a post on Truth Social.

Recurring Patterns

A detailed document highlights 70 incidents of violence against Hindus during Ramadan 2025 alone. These include stone-pelting at Kalash Yatras and assaults on individuals displaying saffron flags or Hindu symbols. Such incidents are not isolated; they reflect a broader pattern of hostility toward Hindus that has persisted for decades.

Historical Context

The historical backdrop of violence against Hindus cannot be ignored. From the Godhra train burning in 2002 to attacks on temples like Akshardham and the Chamba massacres (1998), Hindus have faced systematic aggression. Even recent events like the murder of Kanhaiyalal over a WhatsApp status in Rajasthan serve as grim reminders of communal tensions

A Call for Vigilance and Unity

Given this backdrop, Hindus must recognize the necessity of self-preservation. The notion that goodwill alone will foster peace is a dangerous delusion. Instead, there needs to be a collective awakening among Hindus to safeguard their rights and identity without compromising their values.

The Bharatiya secular state has relentlessly framed policies that challenge Hindu interests and rights. Hindus need to unite in advocating for their rights while also holding accountable those who perpetrate violence against them.

Conclusion: A Future Worth Fighting For

The future of Hindu civilization hinges on our ability to confront uncomfortable truths about communal dynamics in Bharat. The juxtaposition of harmonious gestures by Hindus and acts of hostility against them underscores a troubling imbalance in communal relationships. While fostering goodwill is important, it must not come at the expense of our safety or dignity. As we navigate these complex relationships, let us remember that true harmony can only exist when both communities engage with mutual respect and accountability.

In this critical juncture of our history, Hindus need to stand firm in their identity and protect their heritage against any form of aggression or injustice. The time has come for us to prioritize our safety and unity while advocating for an equitable society where all communities can coexist without fear or hostility. The future of Hindu civilization depends on vigilance and collective action against aggression and injustice—a future worth fighting for.
