‘Which nephew smuggled 100 crore rupees and dumped the money in the bank account of his Russian girlfriend?’: asks Suvendu Adhikari

Suddenly, much discussions are going on in West Bengal’s political arena about a ‘Russian Girlfriend’. Without taking any names, Suvendu Adhikari, Leader of Opposition, alleged that money from corruption and different smuggling rackets went out of Bharat and landed in the foreign bank account of the said Russian girlfriend of a powerful political leader. Who is the powerful political leader, Adhikari didn’t mention.

“Which nephew has the power in West Bengal to send money abroad and have a Russian girlfriend? Who has the power to smuggle 100 crore rupees. You keep looking”, he is quoted as saying in Eisamay report.

On 2nd of August, while addressing State Assembly, without taking any names, Shubhendu Adhikari alleged that a powerful political leader of West Bengal sent ₹ 100 crores of rupees out of the country through hawala. The leader boarded the money in his Russian Girlfriend’s bank account.

CPI(M) leader Muhammad Selim also raised the same allegations. He said that money from several smuggling rackets as coal, cow, sand and stone went out of the country. He also didn’t specify the name of the leader.

And due to these allegations, much hue and cry is heard in Political circle of West Bengal. According to reports, Russian Girlfriend of the said powerful political leader is a model and lives in London. Enforcement Directorate may summon her in connection with the investigation process of corruption and money laundering case.

Interestingly, TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee, nephew of CM Mamata Banerjee, is known as ‘bhaipo‘ in West Bengal political circles. He is an accused in the coal smuggling scam, and both he and his wife have been questioned several times by ED in connection with this case.
