Chopra Assault Case: TMC sends show cause notice to MLA Hamidul Rahman

On the assault on woman in Chopra, TMC officially sent a show cause notice to Hamidul Rahman. Kanhaiyalal Agarwal, TMC’s district president of North Dinajpur said that the notice was sent as per the party’s decision.

Last Sunday, a video went viral on social media. In the viral video, influential TMC leader of Chopra, Tajimul Islam was seen assaulting a woman openly. The video shocked the nation.

But, instead of criticising, TMC MLA Hamidul Rahman tried to suppress the intensity of the incident. He said, “The woman who was publicly flogged was characterless. In our Muslim Rashtra, such societal deliberation and sentencing happens. But in this case, strong punishment was given. I scolded them.”

This comment of TMC MLA Hamidul Rahman fuelled further controversy nationwide. BJP took the matter seriously and senior leaders of the party issued statements condemning the heinous crime against women in TMC-ruled West Bengal.

Sources said that senior leaders of the TMC are disturbed by this and they think that the party’s image has been damaged due to this. So, to control further damage, TMC issued show cause notice to Hamidul Rahman.
