Bhiwandi police arrest engineering student Saad Ashfaq Ansari for supporting Nupur Sharma: Maharashtra

A young engineering boy Saad Ashfaq Ansari was arrested in Mumbai’s suburb Bhiwandi after a mob assaulted him for supporting former BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma. Saad had posted an Instagram story that not just supported Nupur but also questioned the nature of Muhammad and his wife Ayesha’s relationship. A Muslim mob assaulted and abused him yesterday for his stance.

“A 50-year-old man marrying a 6-9-year-old kid is clear child abuse. And I don’t know how you people support this. Will you give your 6-year-old daughter to a 50-year-old man? (think about it)”, he wrote while calling Nupur a brave lady. “I am not in support of any religion. I fucking hate them all. I am just scared to live in a world where you and your family can be killed just because you spoke something about a man who died many years ago”, he said in one of his Instagram posts.

Saad also asked people to grow up and give up religions that spread terrorism. He further stated that he knew he would receive hate for his posts and was prepared to be misunderstood since people were still ‘kids’. Following his social media (SM) posts, a mob gathered outside his residence on Saturday night and confronted him. He gathered enough courage to address the frenzied mob.

When Saad said “If I wanted, I could have stayed inside. But I came out to talk to you”, one of the men said that they would have dragged him out and thrashed him had he not come out of his own accord. The crowd also forced him to read the Kalma (Islamic verses), slapped, and continued to intimidate him. The matter didn’t end despite his apology and demonstrations were held outside his house by a Muslim mob on June 12, Sunday too.

“They later filed a complaint at the Nizampura police station in Bhiwandi city in Thane district of Maharashtra against Saad Ashfaq Ansari alleging blasphemy. According to a man, who was part of the violent mob, Ashfaq had supposedly made ‘objectionable remarks’ against Islam and Muhammad”, noted OpIndia.

The Bhiwandi police issued summons to Nupur Sharma after Raza Academy registered an FIR against her on May 30. Naveen Jindal, who was also booked by the Bhiwandi police, has been summoned on June 15. Nupur Sharma has been summoned to appear on June 22 by the Mumbra police and on June 25 by the Mumbai police.
