There have been so many cases like Aftab-Shraddha and Sahil-Sakshi, which make our hearts tremble. The entire country was shaken by the Shraddha murder case in 2022 and the Sakshi murder case in 2023. These girls were murdered by the people whom they considered their closest.
Now, another such case has hit the headlines across the country. The heartbreaking case has come to light from Navi Mumbai near Mumbai, where 20-year-old Yashashree Shinde was murdered, reportedly by her ‘boyfriend’, Dawood Sheikh, in the most brutal fashion.
Dawood Shaikh has been absconding since the incident. Along with the police, the crime branch team is searching for Shaikh. On the other hand, people are angry, and protests are taking place as Yashashree’s murderer has not been caught yet.
The brutally mutilated dead body of Yashashree was found near Uran railway station
There was a stir in Maharashtra when the body of a 20-year-old girl was found in the bushes near Uran railway station in Navi Mumbai. Deputy Commissioner of Police Vivek Pansare said that the body of the girl was recovered at 2.15 am on Friday night (26 July 2024). The deceased was later identified as Yashashree Shinde. Police are searching for the accused Islamist Dawood Sheikh. The DCP said the victim worked in Belapur and had taken a half-day leave on Friday. He said it is suspected that she was murdered between 3:30 pm and 4 pm on the same day.
Yashashree, who lived with her family in Uran, was brutally stabbed to death. Yashashree Shinde was reportedly missing since July 25. Her mutilated body was found in bushes near a railway station in Navi Mumbai. She had deep wounds on her face, body and private parts. The postmortem report has revealed that the victim girl was not raped.
The murderer stabbed her with a knife several times. Later, some dogs scratched the body. Animals ate some parts of the body. The family members identified the body from the victim’s clothes and tattoos. Yashashree Shinde’s father has accused a man named Dawood Sheikh of murder in his statement to the police. Police have formed three teams to search for the accused. Police suspect that the accused has fled to Karnataka’s Bengaluru.
After recovering the body, the police called the family to identify the remains. As per an India TV report, the face of the victim was smashed, and the family identified her based on her clothes and body. The dead body was shifted to the morgue. A case under Section 103 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) has been registered for murder. The police said in case of rape is proven in the post-mortem, further Sections will be added to the FIR.
The case of love jihad and molestation behind this murder
According to reports, when Yashashree Shinde was studying in eleventh standard, the accused molested her. Yashashree was a minor then, so a case was registered against Dawood Sheikh under the POCSO Act, and he was arrested. Meanwhile, the entire incident is also being linked to love jihad.
Dawood, a driver by profession, started interacting with her when she was a minor (14 years old), began getting close to her and enticed her into an affair. Yashashree started ‘liking’ Dawood, and as days passed, he took Yashashree to his room, where he had sex with her. On the other hand, the family members were suspicious of their daughter’s actions.
The distraught parents tried to convince Yashashree out of the love, but in vain. They filed a case against Shaikh for sexually exploiting Yashashree by luring her. The police then produced Shaikh in court and sent him to jail. According to police sources, after a gap of nearly 5 years, Shaikh established contact with the victim and carried out this barbaric murder as revenge for his arrest.
Call records suggested that Yashashree was talking to the accused for several hours. The police said, “The girl was in touch with a boy named Dawood Shaikh from 2019. After the girl’s family had come to know about the boy in 2019, he left Uran and went to his hometown in Karnataka. Since then, the duo has been in touch over the phone. A few days back, he had come here. We are investigating what intentions he had when he came here.” Free Press Journal report noted that the police said the victim had a tattoo of the accused name beneath the chest.
BJP leader Kirit Somaiya demands strict laws to stop love jihad
Meanwhile, Maharashtra BJP leader Kirit Somaiya raised the demand to bring a law against love jihad in the state. Kirit Somaiya, who met the victim’s family, paid tribute to Yashashree. On this occasion, Somaiya said that such incidents are constantly coming to the fore in the state.
He demanded the state’s Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis that strict laws should be made to stop the increasing incidents of love jihad in the state. Somaiya said that he had assured the family on behalf of the BJP that the accused would be arrested soon. Local MLA Mahesh Baldi was also present with Somaiya on this occasion.
