West Bengal: TMC MLA directs party workers not to add refugee Hindus in the voter list

Trinamool Congress MLA Khokon Das of Burdwan South constituency has ordered party workers that only the names of those close to the TMC should be included in the voter list. At the same time, he instructed his workers not to allow the name of the refugee Hindu community from Bangladesh in the voter list, terming them as ‘. This Trinamool MLA gave this order to the party workers, claiming that the refugee Hindus coming from Bangladesh are ‘BJP voters’.

According to a report by News18, on November 15, the Trinamool Congress organised a party meeting regarding the voter list at the town hall in the Burdwan district of West Bengal. In this meeting, Burdwan South MLA Khokon Das gave this order regarding the voter list to the party workers. He ordered to include more names of those who support the Trinamool Party in the voter list. He also said that adding more names to the voter list is a ‘loss’.

Also referring to the refugee Hindus from Bangladesh, he said that the people who came from Bangladesh are voting more and more for the BJP and doing ‘more Hindu things’. He also added that only those names should be added to the list who will support TMC.

West Bengal BJP protested against this naked manipulation of the democratic process by the TMC MLA. When the Central Government led by the BJP introduced the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) to grant citizenship to persecuted Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists and other minority communities from neighbouring Islamic countries of Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Afghanistan, the Trinamool Congress had strongly opposed it.

The BJP has also accused the Trinamool of making illegal Bangladeshi Muslims voters of West Bengal at various times. All in all, this recent directive by the Trinamool MLA has created a huge controversy that is likely to have a huge impact on the politics of West Bengal.
