West Bengal: Ram Navami Shobhayatra is attacked in Murshidabad; stones are thrown from rooftops

Islamists allegedly attacked a peaceful Ram Navami Shobhayatra in Shaktipur of Murshidabad district of West Bengal. Islamists threw stones on the Ram Bhakts from the houses and from the rooftops.

As per the local sources, a Shobhayatra was going through the road in Shaktipur area. Suddenly, some Muslim residents started to throw stones on the Ram Bhakts from the roof of their houses. The Police personnel present in the rally for security reason, tried to pacify the Muslim residents. But they didn’t listen.

Subsequently, a heavy police force reached the area. But instead of controlling the situation, the Police allegedly tortured Ram Bhakts.

Several devotees on the Shobhayatra alleged that the police fired several rounds of tear gas shell towards them. The Police didn’t take any action against the stone pelters.

BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari also alleged the same against the Police. Taking to ‘X’, he wrote, “

A peaceful Ram Navami Procession, which had all the due permission from the Administration, was attacked by miscreants at Saktipur; Beldanga – II Block; Murshidabad.

Strangely, this time around, Mamata Police joined the miscreants in this ghastly attack and fired tear gas shells on the Ram Devotees to disperse them to ensure that the procession ends abruptly.”
