On April 22, 2025, a brutal terrorist attack unfolded at the Baisaran meadow in Pahalgam, a popular tourist destination in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district. Four militants armed with M4 carbines and AK-47s indiscriminately opened fire on tourists enjoying the scenic valley, killing at least 26 civilians—mostly Bharatiya nationals along with one Nepali—and injuring over 20 others.

The attackers, linked to The Resistance Front, a shadow group of the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba, targeted visitors based on religious identity targeting Hindus specifically, and carried out the massacre in a remote area accessible only by foot or pony.

This incident marks one of the deadliest assaults on civilians in the Kashmir Valley in recent years and has drawn widespread condemnation from Bharatiya authorities, including the Supreme Court, which described the attack as a “diabolical act of mindless violence” shaking the nation’s conscience. The attack also prompted a swift response from security forces and the National Investigation Agency to track down the perpetrators and prevent further violence.

Whitewashing of Islamist crimes and terrorism in Bharat

The terrorists reportedly conducted checks based on religious identity to check if they were Muslim or not before executing their heinous acts, openly cursing Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the attack. Despite these facts, there is a disturbing trend among certain liberal and secular voices in Bharat to systematically whitewash such Islamist crimes.

This whitewashing manifests as denial, downplaying the religious motivations behind these attacks, or framing them as devoid of any communal identity. The usual Islamist news media, Qatar-owned Al Jazeera continued to whitewash Pahalgam terror attack by referring to terrorists as “gunmen”, “rebels”, and “fighters”.

TheWire misquoted eyewitness to whitewash the selective targeting of Hindus in Pahalgam terror attack, quietly updates report after severe backlash. The screenshot below shows the clever exclusion of word ‘not’ to make the statement mean as if the terrorist killed the man for being a Muslim, while the truth was the opposite!

Average Bharatiya Muslim, a lawyer with a media handle named @PadderAasifa tried to portray the Muslims as victims of this terrorist attack while overwhelming majority of victims were Hindus. Moreover, the ideological motivation behind this attack is squarely the Islamist extremism.

Congress supporters and liberalists also did not stay behind and employed a similar tactic of highlighting the sole Muslim victim of the attack out against the 27 Hindus murdered by the barbarous terrorists.

A journalist named Anusha Ravi Sood also propagated the liberal narrative of poor victim Muslims Hindu Right Wing is being made the villain for calling out the silence of Bharatiya Muslims and the Islamist ideology.

In another ridiculously horrific level of blatant Hinduphobia and extreme levels of Muslim appeasement, Congress leader Robert Vadra who blamed Hindutva for the terrorist attack!

Western media also did not shy away from whitewashing the role of Islamist terrorism in this attack.

In its report titled “Gunmen launch rare attack on tourists in Indian-administered Kashmir”, The Washington Post not only watered down the fact that it was a terrorist attack, but also challenged the sovereignty of the Bharatiya state by calling Kashmir “India-administered Kashmir”. Note the usage of word “rare” which makes it feel like an insignificant and negligible incident, hiding the fact that these kind of Islamist brutalities has a dark history of Hindu genocide in Kashmir.

In its report, France 24 called the terrorists “gunmen” and referred to Kashmir as “Indian-administered Kashmir”. Similar to other media houses, France 24 mentioned it as a “terror attack” or “terrorist attack” only while quoting leaders.

Our neighboring Bangladesh also followed a similar path as that of the western counterparts. In its report, Bangladesh Guardian referred to the terrorist attack as a “gun attack” and described Kashmir as “Indian-administered Kashmir” in the body of the report. The attackers were referred to as “armed assailants”.

Similarly, Middle East Eye described Kashmir as “Indian-administered Kashmir” and the terrorists as “gunmen”. MEE further attempted to gaslight Bharat by claiming Kashmir is “often dubbed the world’s most militarised zone”, and by quoting the dubious NGO Amnesty International, which claimed that “all credible, independent sources of information on Jammu and Kashmir” are being silenced following the abrogation of Article 370.

The deliberate editorial choices made by global media houses to downplay the Pahalgam attack as anything but a terror act raise serious ethical questions. By avoiding the term “terrorist” and repeatedly using “Indian-administered Kashmir”, these outlets not only diminish the horror faced by victims but also echo the narrative peddled by Pakistan. Such reportage undermines Bharat’s sovereignty and downplays the systematic targeting of Hindus.

The systematic whitewashing of Islamist terrorism by some liberals and seculars in Bharat represents a dangerous obfuscation of truth.
