Mumbai police reportedly discriminated against Hindus by taking ‘action’ Ganeshotsav mandals for using loudspeakers during visarjan procession while allowing Muslims to use loudspeakers and DJ during Eid-e-Milad even beyond the stipulated 10 PM deadline.
As per available information, the police served notices to Ganesh Mandals for using loudspeakers and DJ during the visarjan procession that took place on 28 September. The mandals cooperated with the police yet the latter took ‘strong action’ against them. The mandals were made to switch them off and remove the loudspeakers.
On the other hand, Muslims were allowed to use loudspeakers and DJ during the Eid-e-Milad procession.
The Muslim community was not only allowed to play DJ music but also permitted to play loudspeakers beyond the stipulated 10 PM deadline violating Supreme Court and Mumbai High Court orders. Activist Prathamesh Kanade highlighted that despite complaints the police officials did not act against the Muslims while they were quick to serve notices to Hindus.
Is this not discrimination and shouldn’t authorities treat everyone equally? Why are Hindus treated with disdain despite following the rules while authorities get cold feet in enforcing the laws when it comes to Muslims?
It has also come to light that a lady police officer was molested during an Eid procession in Vikhroli. The accused was aided by his community members to flee when the lady objected. Hindu community members protested outside the police station by chanting Hanuman Chalisa. They demanded that the accused be arrested at the earliest.
