Minor girl abducted and raped by Shafiq Khan, Abid Khan – Bhopal, MP

A 17-year-old girl, on her way to a hospital in Bhopal, was dragged into a car and taken to a deserted area where she was raped on April 18, reports Times of India. Police has lodged a case under POCSO Act against the accused duo Shafiq Khan (24) and his friend Abid Khan – it is not known if they have been arrested.

What has shocked locals is that the car managed to evade police checkpoints put up to enforce strict lockdown in Bhopal, a Covid-19 hotspot in MP.

The minor girl and a friend were walking towards JP Hospital when she was abducted by the accused from near the hospital gates around 7.30pm on April 18. They drove her to a deserted spot near BHEL Township, Govindpura where Shafiq Khan raped her. After three hours of the nightmare, the duo left her and threatened to kill her if she spoke to anyone.

Terrified and traumatised, the girl kept quiet till a friend counselled her next day and advised her to go to police. She filed a complaint at her local police station, which recorded a zero FIR and transferred it to Habibganj police station, which has jurisdiction of the area around the hospital.

In a similar case from Jan this year, a middle-aged woman, mother of two, was abducted and gangraped while one her way to hospital by two men – Javed and one other – in a moving car on the outskirts of Bhopal. The woman was released from captivity after almost 12 hours and lodged a complaint after another 24 hours as she was terrorised and threatened by the culprits.

The rapist was known to the victim. She was living alone with her two daughters as her husband had abandoned her. Around 6 months before the rape, she had received a call from an unknown number and the caller introduced himself as Javed. Javed later started interacting with her on WhatsApp and even proposed to marry her, which she rejected.
