Following the Karnataka HC’s verdict not allowing hijab in educational institutions, men and women of Tamil Nadu Towheed Jamaat have issued death threats to Modi, Amit Shah, Yogi Adityanath and the Supreme Court judges. In the protest staged at Madurai against the HC’s verdict, Islamists said that SC judges could meet a fate similar to the Jharkhand DM.
Tamil Nadu Towheed Jamaat is staging protests across Tamil Nadu condemning Karnataka HC’s verdict on hijab issue. BJP leaders had requested the Tamil Nadu police to not grant permission to these protests warning that it might flare up communal and law and order issues. Confirming such worries, Muslim men and women who spoke in the Madurai protest issued death threats to SC judges who are hearing the appeal and to PM Modi, HM Amit Shah and UP CM Yogi Adityanath.
A woman speaker who raised slogans against the verdict said, “This is a group that does not fear Modi, Yogi, Amit Shah or death. It fears only Allah. Stop before our patience wears out. Understand that you will not be alive if we lose our patience”. Small girls were also made to take the stage and repeat her chants.
A man who spoke in a passionate manner to whip up the emotions of the crowd said, “We are telling this to the Supreme Court judges. If you give that kind of verdict.. in Jharkhand some people who were angry with a judge for making a wrong judgement, rammed a vehicle on him. He was killed. The court cried and lamented that there is no safety even for the judges in the country. Didn’t it make headlines? Didn’t 2 people surrender after 2 days? There are people who protest legally and democratically. There are emotional/ passionate people everywhere”.
“Don’t think that Muslims have accepted Karnataka HC’s verdict. I’ll play an audio to show what Muslims think of the verdict”. He asks the cops standing there for security, to take notes of what the audio says. He plays an old clip of BJP leader H.Raja, where he compares High Court with hair, when being asked about a verdict. (There is an adage in Tamil comparing something important with hair to mean that it isn’t of value to them).
The speaker says Muslims also think along the same lines now. He says, “If something unfortunate, an accident, or something like that happens to a SC judge, the full responsibility for the same falls on the SC judges. You are watching ordinary news reports today. If you see Big Breaking news tomorrow, it is not we but the judges who are responsible. Are you going to file a complaint against me? Am I giving death threats? Register a case if you want! We are protesting for hijab and we’ll go to jail for that! Allah O Akbar!”.
An Additional District Judge in Dhanbad, Jharkhand was rammed by an auto-rickshaw while on his morning walk. Even though police treated itas a hit and run case initially, it was came to be known fromt the CCTV footage that it was a pre-planned murder. Two persons who were in the autorickshaw at the time of the incident were arrested.
In the past Islamists issued deat threats, in a TNTJ meeting, to Kalyanaraman, a BJP functionary. Other Islamist organisations like PFI, CFI, SDPI also took part in the Madurai protest. CFI has been behind the hijab issue which even the court acknowledged albeit subtly. PFI is a radical organisation which was involved in the cold blooded murder of Ramalingam, a Tamil Hindu man who opposed conversion in his neighbourhood.
In 2020, TN police had booked PFI for secretly running weapon training and radical coaching camps in Ramanathapuram.
