In Uttar Pradesh’s (UP) Bareilly district, a Hindu youth and a burqa-clad Muslim girl were attacked by a group of Islamists while they were sitting together in a garden. A video of the incident shows the duo being confronted by several men who approached them aggressively, demanding their identification details. The men, identified as Islamists, slapped both the Hindu youth and the Muslim girl and insisted on seeing their Aadhaar cards.
During the confrontation, the Hindu youth contacted someone he claimed was a police officer, requesting assistance at the location. Based on the reports from OpIndia, the Hindu youth explained that the Muslim girl was like a sister to him, but the Islamists remained adamant about verifying their identities by checking their Aadhaar Cards. As the incident video circulated online, the Bareilly Police responded promptly. In a post on X, the police stated that the Inspector in Charge of the relevant police station had been instructed to investigate the matter and take appropriate legal action.
Bareilly Police confirmed, “The Inspector in Charge of Kotwali, Bareilly, has been directed to investigate and take necessary legal action.”
Based on TV9 Kannada reports, the post shared on August 25 garnered 13,000 views and numerous comments. One user questioned, “Why don’t you take action when your Muslim youth are seen with Hindu girls?” Another user commented, “Who gave them the authority to assault that young man?”
This incident is part of a troubling trend where Hindu youth have been assaulted by Islamists for being in relationships with Muslim women or simply being seen in their company. These Islamists propagate the notion of a ‘Bhagwa Love Trap,’ claiming that Hindu men are deliberately luring Muslim women into love affairs to exploit them.
Earlier this year, in May, a Hindu auto-rickshaw driver in Karnataka was attacked by several Muslim youths on April 17 for picking up a burqa-clad Muslim woman as a passenger. Similarly, in April, a Hindu professor at Shibli PG College in UP’s Azamgarh was assaulted and threatened by a Muslim mob, who accused him of being part of a ‘Bhagwa Love Trap.’ The attackers even brandished a pistol during the incident and attempted to incite religious sentiments by making the video of the attack go viral online.
This pattern of behaviour highlights the stark double standards and intolerance within certain Islamist circles. While these groups aggressively coerce and forcefully convert Hindu girls, often employing tactics of deception and violence, they react with hostility and aggression when women from their community are seen with Hindu men. This hypocrisy underscores a deep-rooted predatory mindset, where the aim is not just to control their community but to exert dominance over others. The attacks on Hindu youth for simply being in the company of Muslim women reveal the growing intolerance and alarming trend of religious fanaticism that continues to plague society.
