On Sunday, November 26th, Uttar Pradesh Police reported a disturbing incident in Meerut where a class-12 student was subjected to a brutal assault and humiliation by a group of young men. The incident, which occurred on November 13th near KL International School in Jagriti Vihar, involved the victim being attacked with sticks and rods, thrown to the ground, and then urinated on by the assailants.
Shockingly, the perpetrators recorded the heinous act and allegedly shared the video on the internet. Furthermore, they sent the video to the victim’s family as a display of dominance.
According to a senior police official, the victim, who is the son of an Energy Corporation lineman, had left his house to distribute sweets when he was abducted by the accused. The attackers, identified as Avi Sharma, Ashish Malik, Rajan, and Mohit Thakur, along with unidentified accomplices, assaulted the student. The assailants reportedly blackmailed the victim, threatening to make the video viral on social media if he did not pay them money.
Viral videos of the incident depict a man in a dark grey jacket beating the victim at a secluded location, with two others recording the assault. In another video, a man in a white jacket is seen urinating on the student’s face while he pleads for the assault to stop.
Despite initial reports suggesting that some of the attackers were friends of the victim, the victim’s family denies any known dispute between them.
Following the incident, a case was registered against seven individuals on November 16th based on the victim’s father’s complaint. One of the accused, Ashish Malik, has been arrested by the police. Charges have been filed under provisions for rioting, voluntarily causing hurt, intentional insult with the intent to provoke a breach of the peace, and criminal intimidation. Media reports indicate that the severity of the charges was increased after the video surfaced on the internet.
The victim’s father alleges that the victim was kidnapped on his way back from a relative’s house, and there was foul play in registering the First Information Report (FIR). He expressed concern that the accused might be granted bail due to the perceived leniency of the charges initially filed. The victim’s father emphasized that the incident involved kidnapping and urged for the appropriate legal actions to be taken.
