“Opinion | KashmiriPandit Exodus Is Not A Joke: When Comedy Crosses The Line”, News 18, April 11, 2026
“A joke is a joke. It should be taken with a pinch of salt. But a joke can never become history, and a comedian trying to reduce a historical tragedy into a joke should never be taken as humour.
That is exactly what has happened with the recent remarks of Samay Raina.
At a time when he himself has been moving from one controversy to another, apologising to authorities for his own content, he chose to trivialise the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits-mockingly equating it to his own situation and calling it “Kashmiri Pandit wisdom…….”

Writer Tejinder Singh Sodhi seems both knowledgeable and empathetic to the victims of the Islamic terrorism in J&K in late 80s and 90s, practiced by a troika of Pakistan, Local Islamic terrorist, and a majority section of common Muslim accomplice population. Sodhi concludes that “Samay Raina’s Problem Is Not Comedy. It Is Ignorance”. And I am puzzled how does he conclude that? Samay Raina being himself part and parcel of that community, he has lived the experience of Kashmiri Hindu-Muslim equation more intimately.
There is a spectrum of apparantly Hindu people, who join in mocking, whitewashing, even denying Hindu pain and suffering, even attacking victims as a mechanism to cope with Islamic aggression and terror. And they are a significant part of Hindu population. And yes, the escaped victims in their act of self-flagellation sometimes convert their escape under these circumstances as some kind of scheming/jugad by Hindus for their own benefits, principles, sacrifices, sufferings be damned. This audacity springs from several factors:
1. Hindus in general are unorganised and prefer to either suffer individually or escape if possible, instead of joining together to form an organization to resist with force or inform any existing such organization.
2. Mocking, reverse blaming Hindus in response to an Islamic terror incident brings an Islamist or a “rebel” Hindu zero fear to their personal safety or discrimination from Hindus. In fact, in response Hindus become more defensive and try to explain themselves against such cruel reverse accusations thereby giving these Islamists and “rebel” Hindus an ego boost to their self-importance, self-gratification, and even wider recognition, and rewards and appreciation by Islamic ecosystem.
3. Trying to talk empathetically about victims of Islamic terrorism, by identifying the cause as Islamic terrorism instantly brings personal and professional safety risk from the Islamic ecosystem which includes Hindus and other non-Muslim dhimmi supporters of Islamists. In turn, Hindus have no courage to provide protection to these people who are courageous enough to take on Islamists.
4. A self-flagellating Hindu becomes “safe” from Islamists ire, and Hindus in response only feel more demoralized, more defeated and unprepared. It only encourages more inaction and cowardice. Samay Raina chose this path.
Saying nonsensically that Samay Raina’s Problem Is Ignorance, and not the result of Muslim-Hindu co-existence as a Predator-Cattle mind-state is just an unfortunate escapism. Sodhi’s whole article labors only to wallow in such escapism is very harmful to Hindu community.
The “safe Hindus” in Jammu mocking him as a “Kashmiri Lolla” and taunting him with “Panditji, why didn’t you pick up the gun?” makes the Hindu character come out as not only cattle like, but also as cattles who don’t mind bullying other victim cattles and wounding them. Now all preys like rats, rabbits, deer, wildebeest, buffallos, cattles do sometimes fight a bloody fight amongst themselves, but run helter-skelter on facing wild dogs and hyenas. This is also observed with Sanatan Vedic, Buddhists, Jains, Sikhs, Christians who are unable to organize and reclaim their space when faced with a murderous, terroristic Muhammadanism inspired predation themselves. But these humans in addition, also start blaming and mocking direct victims as a cowardly escapist self-gratification pleasure.
Very beautiful analysis ma’am 🙏🏻
