Assam: Communal clashes in Silchar

Silchar town’s Panchayat Road area witnessed a communal clash earlier today. The clash resulted the damage of few vehicles. Before further escalation, a huge team Cachar Police reached the spot and controlled the situation.

Local Hindus alleged that some Muslim youths hurled communal slurs at them. When they protested, they attacked commuters. Also, Muslim alleged that some people objected to the animal sacrifice. Thus, clashes broke out between Hindu and Muslim. Several vehicles have been damaged.

Hearing the news of communal tension, Cachar SP Numal Mahatta arrived promptly at the spot with a huge police force to control the situation. He said, “We have had extensive conversation with both parties. Further investigations are underway and appropriate actions will be taken in accordance with the law.”

Furthermore, SP Mahatta said, “I urge the general public not to be swayed by the rumours and to refrain from the baseless information. Peace has been restored.”
