Elite intellectuals of Bharat – victims or perpetrators of the woke virus?

Bharat’s intellectual elite is heavily influenced by the leftist woke ideology. This globalist woke lobby is remotely controlled by the west and the Islamists. It’s an entire ecosystem; the Bharatiya elites in their quest to be seen as progressive and liberal go out of their way to tick all the right boxes. They happily take up any cause that their White liberal masters peddle as flavor of the month.

That’s precisely why the elite intellectuals of Bharat seem to have a strong opinion on everything including Black Lives Matter, the Israel-Palestine issue, the Russia-Ukraine war, and the apparently rising Islamophobia in the west but they have no interest in condemning the increasing attacks on Hindus in their own backyard. Rarely would you find these intellectuals say anything to protest the alarming increase in attacks on Hindu minorities in Bangladesh and Pakistan, or the targeting of Hindus in Bharat itself.

For these elites, whatever drives the global agenda is attention-worthy. Hindu lives, unfortunately, do not drive the global agenda, nor do they get funding for international Arts and literature festivals. The woke lobby has hijacked the entire cultural and literary ecosystem not just in Bharat but all over the world. That’s why you would see the woke intellectuals forming the who’s who list of global cultural and literary elite espousing only certain kinds of causes and issues.

Mumbai-based poet, cultural theorist, and art curator Ranjit Hoskote recently resigned from the Finding Committee for Documenta 16, the 2027 edition of what is considered as one of the world’s most prestigious art exhibitions organized in Germany ever five years. Hoskote quit the committee in November 2023 over an article published in a German daily, accusing him of antisemitism and sympathizing with the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement in the context of the Israel-Palestine issue. Ranjit Hoskote was one of the signatories of a BDS India petition in 2019 protesting a talk and discussion hosted in Mumbai by the Consulate General of Israel on the topic “Zionism and Hindutva”. Hoskote was reportedly denounced by Documenta for signing a letter that was full of antisemitic content.

Ranjit Hoskote reportedly resigned from Documenta panel to protest the lack of freedom of expression in Germany vis-à-vis Israel and Documenta’s attempt to create an intimidating atmosphere of censorship and silencing of voices questioning Israel and its policies.

Now this is exactly how the woke ecosystem works. Run your explicit agenda and then start crying victim if you are questioned for the same. If Ranjit Hoskote has the freedom of expression to sign any letter he wants, even the German media has the freedom of expression to criticize his actions. How come Hoskote’s freedom of expression is genuine freedom and German media’s freedom of expression totalitarianism and censorship? He has every right to disagree with their criticism, but he can’t accuse them of silencing and censorship just because they are speaking in favor of Israel. Every situation has two sides to it, and Ranjit Hoskote being a cultural critic and a literary personality, should have been sensitive enough to understand it. But instead, he chooses to oversell his own biases and prejudices and starts crying victim.

The Bharatiya English media is full of articles portraying Hoskote as some kind of a martyr protesting the censorship and lack of freedom of expression in Germany. “Germany, a state that was looked up to for wisdom and leadership in international affairs, today stands nearly isolated in its intransigent refusal to call for a ceasefire in Gaza. I deeply regret to say that this unconditional embrace of Israel and the branding of any critique of Israel as “anti-Semitic” masks a rising Islamophobia. Can these political leaders not see that this is the road to strife, because it will marginalize and place at risk Germany’s considerable immigrant-origin population, people of Turkish, Arab, Iranian, and West African heritage”, says Hoskote as quoted by The Indian Express.

One can see how Hoskote is inserting his political agenda by indicting Germany for not supporting the UN resolution calling for a ceasefire in Gaza. He is giving a one-sided argument that completely overlooks the issue of the historical extermination of Jews and their right to have a state of their own. He seems to be speaking like a political lobbyist rather than an independent artist and a cultural critic. This is exactly how the woke leftist and Islamic lobby coopts elite literary and cultural figures to become mouthpieces for their agenda.

Ironically enough, the BDS (Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions) Movement is no benign human rights movement but a lobby that threatens anyone supporting Israel and Jews with boycotts, divestment, and sanctions. Basically, it calls for international sanctions against Israel and a systematic boycott of its institutions and organizations. It seems the BDS is alright with Jews as long as they declare open hatred for the state of Israel and support the so-called Palestinian cause unconditionally without looking at their own interests. Such a hate-mongering aggressive political lobbying group that looks at only one side of the situation and stays completely silent on the terror perpetrated by the likes of Hamas and the historical persecution of Jews is being portrayed as some sort of a textbook on human rights by the likes of Hoskote. It’s a political lobbying group at its best and Ranjit Hoskote has every right to support it in his independent capacity, but he has no right to lecture anyone questioning his support to BDS.

The likes of Arundhati Roy worrying about the human rights of Maoists and all sorts of Islamic terrorists and going into hibernation mode when it comes to talking about the human rights of Hindus, are typical of the dangerous rot that has gotten at the very core of the elite Bharatiya intellectual establishment. Completely disconnected from the real Bharat, these so-called intellectual icons spew anti-Bharat venom at the speed of light that gets them accolades from their global masters. The whole ecosystem is structured such that only people who say certain kind of things can perhaps work their way to the top.

According to a recent article published in OpIndia, the Calcutta High Court heard a petition against Arundhati Roy for anti-Bharat statements made by her in an interview with Al Jazeera. Arundhati Roy reportedly said in the interview that Bharat was becoming a fascist Hindu enterprise. According to the OpIndia report, Roy could be heard calling Bharat’s present rulers “gangsters” in the video of the interview.

It’s sad that not just the Bharatiya youth but English-educated people across all age groups idolize these woke cultural and literary icons who actively work to dismantle Bharat. The only way to ensure they gradually become irrelevant is by creating a strong alternative ecosystem of pro-Bharat voices.
