The West assumes the role of a self-anointed guardian when it comes to admonishing “third world” countries like Bharat on their supposed mistreatment and oppression of minorities. The Western media too loves propagating a certain kind of narrative vis-à-vis Bharat, one that labels the country’s democratically elected government as “Hindutva fascist” and portrays its attempt at reviving Bharat’s ancient civilizational and cultural heritage as non-secular and anti-minority.
But when it comes to condemning the vicious spate of attacks on Bharatiya-origin people living abroad, the Western ecosystem looks the other way. The sheer hypocrisy of the West is best visible in the context of Canada which has been a hotbed of Khalistani extremism, a process that has sped up alarmingly over the past couple of years, courtesy Trudeau government’s political courting of Khalistani extremists.
Vandalism of Hindu temples has become a commonplace occurrence in Canada. So has the abuse of Canadian Hindus, with Khalistani extremists casually posting videos on social media platforms where they can be seen openly threatening the Hindu community of Canada and asking them to go back to Bharat.
At least three Hindu temples across Canada were attacked and defaced with anti-Hindu and anti-Bharat graffiti in 2023, as per various media reports. A report by OpIndia says that six Hindu temples were attacked in Toronto alone in February 2022. The usual. modus operandi of such attacks is to deface the temple walls with “Khalistan Zindabad, Hindustan Murdabad” kind of slogans.
A Hindu temple in Edmonton, Canada was recently vandalized with hateful graffiti painted on its walls. The temple was defaced with slurs threatening Bharatiya PM Modi and Bharatiya-origin Canadian MP Chandra Arya. The hateful graffiti labeled PM Modi and Canadian MP Chandra Arya as “Hindu Terrorist” and “Anti-Canada”. It’s a common feature of Khalistani extremism – Hinduphobia and Bharatphobia find common ground through the collusion of various kinds of anti-Bharat and anti-Hind stakeholders including Islamists and global leftists.
Chandra Arya condemned the vandalism, reacting strongly against the involvement of Khalistani extremists in orchestrating anti-Hindu and anti-Bharat hate activities in Canada. He also raised the issue through his X account and drew attention to the vicious anti-Bharat propaganda trail of Khalistani leaders of Canada:
“The Hindu temple BAPS Swaminarayan Mandir in Edmonton is vandalized again. During the last few years, Hindu temples in Greater Toronto Area, British Columbia and other places in Canada are being vandalized with hateful graffiti. Gurpatwant Singh Pannun of Sikhs for Justice last year publicly called for Hindus to go back to India.
Khalistan supporters publicly celebrated in Brampton and Vancouver the assassination of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and brandishing images of deadly weapons.
As I have always been saying, Khalistani extremists seems to get away with ease with their public rhetoric of hate and violence.
Again, let me put on record. Hindu-Canadians are legitimately concerned. Like a broken record, I again call on Canadian law enforcement agencies to take this issue seriously before these rhetorics get translated into physical action against Hindu-Canadians”.

Canadian MP Chandra Arya was subsequently threatened by the Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun of the Sikhs for Justice who reportedly released a video demanding Arya and his “Indo-Canadian” friends to go back to Bharat. Arya shared the video clip along with his X post in which Pannun can be seen threatening Arya “to go back to Modi’s India”.
Along with the video, Chandra Arya shared another long post through his X account where he called out the Khalistanis for polluting the land of Canada and for “abusing our freedoms guaranteed by our Canadian Charter of Rights”:
“We Hindus have come to our wonderful country Canada from all parts of the world. From every country in South Asia, many countries in Africa and Caribbean, and many other parts of the world, we have come here and Canada is our land. We have made and continue to make immense positive and productive contribution to the socio-economic development of Canada. With our long history of Hindu culture and heritage, we have enriched the multicultural fabric of Canada”. (Canadian MP Chandra Arya on X).

It’s not hard to imagine the extent of control Khalistani forces exert over the Canadian government, going by this whole incident. A Member of Parliament is threatened by a Khalistani terrorist to surrender his Canadian citizenship and pack his bags to Bharat. Yet, one doesn’t see as much as a whimper of criticism from the Canadian government! What’s even more incredible is the fact that Chandra Arya is an MP in the Canadian cabinet and a member of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s Liberal Party. It’s indeed an alarming reflection on the situation of Hindus in Canada that an MP, that too from the ruling party has to take to social media platforms to condemn the threats issued against him by Khalistani extremists.
A report by News 18 says that a top intelligence source has revealed to them that a Bharatiya-origin Canadian MP being asked to go back to Bharat by Khalistani extremists can’t happen without the consent of the Trudeau government. According to the article, the intelligence source told News 18 that the issue of an MP being bashed by Khalistani goons and not a word coming from the government is very serious because the government gives space to all kinds of people – drug mafia, serial killers, gangsters. As per the report, the intelligence source emphasized that an MP being asked to go back to Bharat cannot happen without the consent of the government and that’s why they believed that there was some serious understanding emerging between Pannun and Trudeau government.
The Trudeau government has indeed displayed a consistent anti-Bharat stand by staying silent on the issue of the alarming rise of anti-Hindu hate crimes in Canada including temple attacks, while going over the top in exhibiting sympathy for a Khalistani terrorist like Hardeep Singh Nijjar. The Trudeau government seems to have turned Nijjar’s murder into a geopolitical mission by forcefully implicating the government of Bharat in the whole scenario. For the Trudeau party which has a weakened mandate in the Canadian Parliament, it seems that the support of Khalistani extremists has become a political necessity for survival. That’s why Trudeau has amped his anti-Bharat rhetoric to keep the Khalistani lobby happy.
Meanwhile, Bharat’s Ministry of External Affairs has condemned Pannun’s threats directed at Bharatiya-origin leaders in Canada. Reacting to reports that Canada has charged two individuals for online threats against Canadian PM Justin Trudeau, MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, “We have seen these reports. When a democracy adopts different yardsticks to measure and implement the rule of law and freedom of expression, it only exposes its own double standard. We expect Canada to take action against anti-India elements who have repeatedly threatened Indian leaders, institutions, airlines and diplomats by violence. We would like to see strong action, same level of action on the threats posed to us”.
Hindu advocacy organization Coalition of Hindus of North America (CoHNA) has repeatedly drawn attention to the issue of Khalistani extremism in Canada perpetuating an anti-Hindu and anti-Bharat sentiment in the country. CoHNA Canada ran an X thread on the recent threat made by Pannun by Canadian MP Chandra Arya, asking him to leave Canada and go to Bharat.
We leave you with a bit of their perspective as we wrap:
“In a harrowing continuation of threats, Gurpatwant Singh Pannun of Sikhs for Justice has escalated his hate campaign against Hindu Canadians. Following the Liberal MP AryaCanada’s public denunciation of vandalism at a Hindu temple in Edmonton, Pannun has now directed threats at MP Arya and “his supporters” – broadly targeting the Hindu Canadian community with demands to leave Canada!
This mirrors a similar directive from September 2023, when Pannun audaciously commanded Hindu Canadians to “Leave Canada”. Ironically, Pannun, who has repeatedly threatened Hindu Canadians in the past, including a possibility of repeating the 1985 Air India bombing terror attack, in the video, alleges MP Arya of promoting “violence”.
Pannun’s rhetoric disturbingly praises Khalistanis as the true bearers of Canadian values, while exalts Air India bomber Talwinder Parmar, a as one of those “Canadian martyrs who defended Canadian values””.
