NCERT’s tame revision and distorians’ loud outrage: Why Bharat is still in search of its true history

“NCERT’s tame revision and distorians’ loud outrage: Why Bharat is still in search of its true history”, Firstpost, July 21, 2025:

“The recent storm over changes in NCERT’s history textbooks has reignited an old and unresolved debate: Who owns Bharat’s history, and who has the right to narrate it? Critics—largely from the academic and media establishment—have slammed the revisions as politically motivated, accusing the government of “saffronisation” and ideological distortion.

But this outrage, however loud, sidesteps a deeper truth: For decades after Independence, Bharat’s historiography—particularly what entered school curricula—was crafted not by a plurality of scholarly voices, but by a small coterie of Marxist and Nehruvian intellectuals who captured the country’s academic institutions and think tanks through political patronage and interference.

Such was the stranglehold of Leftist historians such as Romila Thapar, Bipan Chandra, Irfan Habib, and R S Sharma that there was no space for historiography other than the one rooted in economic determinism—a worldview that was dismissive of Bharat’s civilisational achievements and ethos…….”

  1. The history distortion in academia by an elite set of writers reflects the rules of Congress, Communist parties, DMK and related parochial political parties whose common characteristics have been downplaying and mocking, fractionalizing our civilizational heritage in the areas of religions (dharm), philosophies (darshan), arts, architecture and political management. These hinduism-haters had powerful international ecosystem support and recognition from both Western (White Judeo-Christian) academia and governments and Mohammadan activists and governments. And they were emboldened by the apathy, cowardice and slavishness that has deeply seeped into Hindu culture.

When such history was presented to them, most Hindus have taken it like some dictat from an authority. Through terror and intimidation, Mohammadans not only wrested large parts of then India into their exclusive “Islamic” areas, but continued decimating Hindus and their culture from these “no-go” areas, with Hindu reaction being similar to cattles on being attacked by predatory hyenas, wolves etc.. The apathy, cowardice and slavisness of most Hindus has resulted in large percentage of them becoming “secular” – basically self-loathing, mohammadan hind licking, white people fawning survivalists. So not only rise but also long prevalence of these Hindu-hating “historians” has been a natural phenomenon.

I always feel very pessimistic when Hindu publications continue to use words like:
Left – when they mean Hindu hating, Hinduism phobic persons, these people may not necessarily be communist/socialist in real lfe,
Minorities – when the mean bigoted Mohammadans, and nothing meaning actual religious minorities like Sikhs, Buddhists, etc,
Secular: when they mostly mean Hindu sounding Hindu/Hinduism hating dhimmies, while non-conflicting living with multiple Hindu religions in our nation represent true historical secularism,
    And so on…

Narendra Modi has succeeded in Hindus looking beyond caste equations while voting and has provided Hindus a breathing space to mend themselves, before their decreasing population make it impossible. We should use this limited time not on blaming, but on i) recording anti-Hindu hate and ii) equally as well checking with Hindu organizations and asking them to act. Fortunately we are seeing extremely qualified and industrious new historians. We also need a critical mass of epigraphists, archeologists, historical Chinese, Tibetan, Arabic, Persian language experts to rigorously study our civilization from disparate sources.

The overwhelming issue is Hindu people’s general inability to enthuse, organize and act unitedly for our multiple dharms. Unlike how an average Hindu family gets energized in matters of caste, dowry, female feticide.
