TN: 2 teachers working in govt-aided Christian schools arrested for sexual abuse

2 Christian teachers from 2 different Christian schools were arrested in Tamil Nadu for sexually abusing minor children. Children as young as ten years old were preyed on by the Head Master of a government-aided Christian school. A math teacher working in another government-aided Christian school was arrested after 10th-grade girls accused him of sexual harassment.

Thomas Samuel (57), the headmaster of the government-aided primary school run by Tamil Evangelical Lutheran Church in a village in Tirunelveli, has been sexually abusing 5th-grade girls. One of the victims told her parents about it, who filed a complaint with the All Women’s Police Station. Investigation revealed that he showed porn to the children and, 9 other girls were sexually abused as well.

He has been working as HM in the school since 2012. It is unclear whether he abused students who passed out from the school. He has been booked under the POCSO Act. The pedophile had gone into hiding but was later arrested by the police from his native village. Officials in the Education Department said that the school had suspended Samuel, and the department will take action against him based on the report from the school.

A math teacher was arrested after sexual abuse charges were leveled against him n another similar incident. Arogya Arul Thomas, the perpetrator, has been teaching mathematics to 10th-grade in the Sacred Heart Higher Secondary School in Thiruvarangam, Ramanathapuram. A girl student accused him of sexually harassing her while supervising an exam. He told her, “I like you very much” which disconcerted the girl.

He reportedly grabbed her hand, and when she tried to get away, he patted her head in a condescending manner and misbehaved with her. She went to Principal Arulanand, who let Thomas off with a warning instead of taking action against him. The girl reached out to Child Protection Committee whose officials investigated Thomas, other teachers, and students in the school.

They not only confirmed the charges leveled by the girl but found out that the conduct of two other teachers was also abnormal. Following this, Thomas has been booked under POCSO and arrested. Sexual abuse has become an everyday affair in Christian schools with a rise in such incidents. What is worrying is that many of them happen in government-aided schools (1, 2, 3) which if not directly, makes the government responsible, as well.

When individuals working in prominent Hindu-run private institutions faced sexual abuse charges the schools, Hindu organizations, and Hindu culture were drawn through the mud by Dravidianists. They in fact asked for the schools to be taken over by the government. However, despite numerous incidents of sexual abuse in Christian institutions, the media not only keeps mum about it, but they also continue to receive government grants as well.

  1. If physically survived, emotional/psychological trauma from unhindered toxic abuse, sexual or otherwise, typically results in a helpless child’s brain improperly developing. If allowed to continue for a prolonged period, it can act as a starting point into a life in which the brain uncontrollably releases potentially damaging levels of inflammation-promoting stress hormones and chemicals, even in non-stressful daily routines. It’s like a form of non-physical-impact brain damage.

The lasting emotional and/or psychological pain from such trauma is very formidable yet invisibly confined to inside one’s head. It is solitarily suffered, unlike an openly visible physical disability or condition, which tends to elicit sympathy/empathy from others. It can make every day a mental ordeal, unless the turmoil is treated with some form of medicating, either prescribed or illicit.

The health of ALL children needs to be of real importance to us ALL — and not just concern over what other parents’ children might or will cost us as future criminals or costly cases of government care, etcetera — regardless of how well our own developing children are doing. And that a physically and mentally sound future should be every child’s fundamental right — along with air, water, food and shelter — especially considering the very troubled world into which they never asked to enter. …

Although it’s only for April, every day of the year should be Child Abuse Prevention Month in this world.
