The Thirumana Kandam (Part comprising the divine wedding of Prabhu Sri Ram & Sita Mata) was present as a separate chapter in the present-day Ramayana, and it was not mentioned in the ancient Grantha Sri Valmiki Ramayana. This was written by a Sanskrit Scholar a century ago as a token of showing his gratitude to Prabhu Sri Rama, since he got married to a pious girl only after he wrote this chapter and meditated on Prabhu Rama for a long period of time.
Sri Sita Rama Thirukalyanam (wedding) took place during the Treta Yuga. Young Rama and Lakshmana helped Brahmarishi Viswamitra in killing the demons and after finishing the task, Viswamitra took them to Janakpur, Mithila. There Rama had participated in the Swayamvaram of Ma Sita. Since Sri Ram broke the Divine bow of Bhagwan Shiva successfully, Ram and Sita were married in Janakpur, which is situated in the present-day Bharat-Nepal Border. During the marriage ceremony, apart from the family members of Rama and Sita, even the divine devas, sages and deities like Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva also attended the marriage and blessed the Royal couple.
Vivah Panchami is a Hindu festival which popularly celebrates the wedding of Sri Rama and Ma Sita. It is observed during November – December month. The day is celebrated as the wedding day of Sri Rama, both in Bharat and Nepal. Special celebrations are held in Nepal’s Janakpurdham, where thousands of pilgrims arrive from many parts of Bharat, since it is believed that Devi Sita married with Prabhu Rama at this sacred place.
It is good to read the Sitarama Thirukalyana Vaibhavam from the Ramayana, since it describes the wonderful celebration of the marriage. During the time of marriage, all the people from Ayodhya and from Mithila attended the celestial wedding. All of them were given warm welcome by the Royal family. Delicious food items were offered to all the participants of the marriage, irrespective of their caste, creed, and community.
During the time of Ramayana Upanyasam, the Upasakar would tell about the marriage of Ma Sita and Sri Rama in an interesting manner. Those who study or hear the Ramayana Thirukalyanam, would attain all sorts of prosperity in their lives, and they would lead a long life along with their family members in a peaceful manner.
