Love jihad exposed; Islamist Tabish Asghar deceived Hindu woman with fake identity as Vishal Rana, coerced her into conversion and abortion: Noida, UP

In a disturbing case from Noida, Uttar Pradesh, a Hindu woman has accused an Islamist man of deceiving her by pretending to be Hindu to marry her, pressuring her for religious conversion, and attempting to murder her. Despite lodging a complaint three months ago, the police failed to act until senior authorities intervened.

Reports suggest that Islamist Tabish Asghar, a resident of Naugawan Sadat in Amroha, deceived a Hindu woman by posing as a Hindu man named Vishal Rana. Islamist Asghar, who hails from Amroha, tricked the daughter of a businessman from Shahjahanpur by pretending to be a Rajput from Naugawan Sadat. The accused married the woman in a Hindu ceremony, after which he pressured her to convert to Islam. He also forced her to abort her pregnancy and even tried to kill her. An FIR was filed against Islamist Asghar at the Gautam Buddh Nagar Sector 113 Police Station, leading to his arrest and subsequent imprisonment.

According to the reports from Jagran, the woman, whose father is a businessman from Shahjahanpur, met Asghar four years ago. At the time, he introduced himself as Vishal Rana, a Rajput from Naugawan Sadat. Over time, Asghar gained her trust, and their relationship developed into a romantic one.

Based on the reports from OpIndia, on February 22, 2023, Asghar, still posing as Vishal Rana, married the woman following Hindu customs at a banquet hall in Ghaziabad. The ceremony was attended by her family and Asghar’s brother, Islamist Wasim Akhtar, who also assumed a false identity as Vasu Rana to support the deception.

A few days after the wedding, Asghar took the woman to the Allahabad High Court, claiming they needed to register a court marriage. During this visit, the woman discovered Islamist Tabish Asghar’s true identity through official records. Shocked, she confronted him about his deception. However, Asghar dismissed her concerns, threatening that pursuing the matter further would jeopardize her future.

Soon after, Asghar began pressuring the woman to convert to Islam. When she refused, he forced her to have an abortion and threatened her life. Unable to bear the abuse, the woman returned to her parents’ home in Shahjahanpur. Tabish followed her there, apologized, and managed to convince her to come back to Noida with him. However, his coercive behavior resumed almost immediately.

The situation took a dangerous turn when he allegedly tried to kill her by pushing her off a hill during a trip to Ramnagar. After the incident, he fled and remained unreachable for several days. The woman filed a missing person report, which led the police to track him down. An FIR was filed at the Sector 113 Police Station in Gautam Buddh Nagar, with charges including assault, forced abortion, and violations of the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act. Later, Islamist Asghar was arrested and sent to jail.

Several such cases have surfaced earlier in Uttar Pradesh regarding forced Islamic conversions. Recently, in September 2024, Maulana Umar Gautam and 11 co-accused were sentenced to life imprisonment for their involvement in mass forced conversions. This highlights the extent of conversion rackets and radical Islamic activities that have occurred in the past and continue to target individuals through love jihad, despite the introduction of anti-conversion laws in the state.
