In a brazen and deeply disturbing act of sacrilege, sacred Navagraha murtis at a Hindu temple in Ramanagara were deliberately vandalized, striking at the religious sentiments and faith of countless Hindu devotees and raising serious questions about the safety of Hindu places of worship. Navagraha murtis installed within the premises of the Lakshmi Venkataramana Swamy Temple, located near Kempegowda Circle on Jalanamangala Road in Ramanagara, were vandalized on Saturday night. As per Prajavani reports, an unidentified miscreant entered the temple premises and deliberately damaged the sacred murtis, triggering outrage among Hindu devotees and local residents.
According to police information, the incident reportedly occurred at around 10:45 PM when an individual entered the temple premises, remained there briefly, and subsequently vandalized the Navagraha murtis. A mini-bus parked in front of the temple reportedly obstructed the view, preventing passers-by from noticing the act. The incident came to light only the following morning when the temple pujari arrived and discovered the damaged sacred murti structures.
The disturbing incident was reportedly captured by a CCTV camera installed at a nearby bakery. The footage is expected to play an important role in identifying the anti-Hindu perpetrator and establishing the sequence of events. Following a complaint lodged by the temple committee, Aijoor police registered a case and initiated an investigation to trace the accused. Authorities must examine the CCTV footage thoroughly, identify the individual responsible, and establish whether anyone else was involved in planning or carrying out the vandalism.
The desecration of sacred Navagraha murtis is not merely an act of property damage; it is an attack on a place of worship and the religious sentiments of countless Hindu devotees. The incident has raised serious concerns about the security of temples and the protection of Hindu religious sites. The investigation must establish the motive behind the attack. No individual should be allowed to vandalize a Hindu place of worship and escape accountability. Protection of temples, preservation of sacred traditions, and respect for the religious sentiments of every Hindu must remain non-negotiable.
Several such incidents have occurred across Karnataka in the past. Eventually, the police end up claiming that a mentally unstable person was responsible, using mental illness as an explanation while questions about accountability remain unanswered. Meanwhile, those who actually carry out such attacks may walk free. Radical Islamists and anti-Hindu elements must not be allowed to escape justice under the protection of vote-bank politicians and institutions that turn a blind eye to such crimes.
