Hindus under attack: a weekly roundup of hate crimes, persecution, and discrimination against Hindus

Attacks on Hindus and Hindu Dharma, both in Bharat and overseas, are frequent and unrelenting. In many regions of the world, this persecution is like a genocide slowly unfolding before our eyes. For decades, the world has ignored the actual depth and breadth of these attacks, driven by disturbing anti-Hindu bigotry. From murders, forced conversions, land grabs, assault on festivals, desecration of temples and murtis, hate speech, and sexual violence to institutionalised & legal discrimination, Hindus are facing an increasing assault on their very existence along with an unprecedented Hindu hatred.

In this weekly summary for the period from 12 October to 18 October 2025, we hope to provide a snapshot of such crimes and hopefully awaken more people around the world to this human rights crisis:

Bharat

1) Chitrakoot Police in Uttar Pradesh (UP) foiled a Christian religious conversion racket in Ghunuwa village under the Raipura police station area. The action was taken after Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal activists alerted the authorities about the ongoing forced conversion activities in the region. Two men were detained by the police while one of the accused managed to escape. Police seized Christian religious literature.

2) A protest erupted in Udham Singh Nagar, Uttarakhand, after community leaders and the family of a young woman accused a police Sub-Inspector (SI) of mishandling a love jihad case involving a Hindu woman from Chhattisgarh and a Muslim man. The matter gained state-level attention and highlighted ongoing concerns related to love jihad.

3) A shocking case of gang-rape and forced religious conversion involving a minor orphan Hindu girl has come to light in Prayagraj. Reports state that about a year ago, Mohammad Alam, a resident of a neighboring village called Ubhaari, took the minor Hindu girl and her 10-year-old younger brother from their village on the pretext of finding them work. While they were made to work at a local roadside eatery for some time, the girl was soon kidnapped and held captive at the accused’s home, where her ordeal began.

4) The Hindu Munnani has petitioned the Coimbatore District Collector, alleging that a CSI Christ Church in Keeranatham Village has been illegally constructed on government land designated for Adi Dravidars using a fraudulent land title document (patta).

5) In Rudrapur, Uttarakhand, a shocking case of deceit and religious masquerade was unearthed when a young Islamist man named Ahad Khan, hiding his true faith, allegedly seduced a Hindu woman and brought her to a hotel under false pretenses. The subterfuge came to light when vigilant Hindu groups swiftly converged on the scene, creating a ruckus and alerting the authorities.

Bangladesh

Attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh are relentless and designed to cleanse the religious minority from the country gradually. According to a study by Prof. Abul Barakat of Dhaka University, no Hindus will be left in Bangladesh by 2050 due to systemic and institutionalized persecution. Temple desecration, land grabbing, mob attacks after false blasphemy charges, rape/forced conversion of women, and hate speech are tools used to intimidate and drive Hindus out.

1) A storm of controversy has erupted in Bangladesh after the ‘Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council’ (BHBCUC) issued a strong condemnation of a Deputy State Minister’s recent comments on Durga Puja, describing the remarks as “deeply communal, divisive, and dangerous.”

2) A heart-wrenching incident has shaken the quiet village of Manikraj in Faridganj, as the body of Sujon Debnath (30) was recovered under mysterious circumstances. According to police sources, Sujon’s body was found floating in waterlogged farmland around 4:30 PM, sending shockwaves through the local community.

3) A tragic incident in the Thengamara area of Gaibandha district has once again highlighted the worsening plight of Bangladesh’s Hindu minority. A woman from Palpara village is reportedly on the verge of death, overwhelmed by grief and trauma following the abduction of her young daughter, Aduri, a fifth-grade schoolgirl.

4) Another brutal killing has sent shockwaves across Bangladesh. Subrata Das was savagely hacked to death in broad daylight on a public road in Subarnachar, Noakhali, while bystanders reportedly looked on in horror and fear.

World

1) Racist graffiti near a children’s park in Canada sparked social media outrage. The graffiti had the words ‘Indian Rats’ and advocacy group CoHNA has called for immediate probe into the incident.

Most hate crimes are driven by anti-Hindu bigotry encoded in certain religious teachings and political ideologies. While the anti-Hindu hate in Islamic countries is evident, there is another subtler form of anti-Hindu sentiment within institutions and the public sphere of ostensibly secular states (like India) that provides an enabling environment for Hinduphobia and hate crimes. This subtle, everyday discrimination can be missed unless one studies prevailing laws and patterns. The gradual ban on firecrackers during Diwali is a good example – it might seem pollution-related on the surface. Still, the double standards at play become apparent when one looks at the larger picture of restrictions on Hindu festivals and the lack of sound reasoning behind the ban.

We request all readers to share other anti-Hindu hate crimes that we might have missed in this period in the comments below or by emailing [email protected]. We also solicit support in maintaining the Hindu human rights tracker database.
