Catholic body CBCI directs missionary schools not to force Christian traditions on students of other religions

In a significant turn of events, the Catholic Bishop’s Conference of India(CBCI) directed all Missionary schools to respect all faiths and traditions. CBCI also asked missionary schools not to force Christian traditions on students of other religions.

Recently, CBCI issued a 13-page guideline to address ‘emerging challenges due to the current socio-cultural, religious and political situation’ in the country.

And this move is welcomed by ‘Kutumba Suraksha Parishad(KSP)’, a Hindu organisation in Assam.

The guideline came after the protest of KSP and its leader, Satya Ranjan Borah. In the guideline, CBCI was also directed to recite the Preamble to the Constitution during the daily morning assembly and set up an ‘inter-religious prayer room’ on school premises.

Earlier, KSP leader Satya Ranjan Borah alleged that missionary schools behave as religious institutions, not educational institutions. He and his organisation demanded to remove Christian symbols and churches from the premises of the missionary schools. Satya Ranjan Borah also alleged that Christian symbols are part of the conversion agenda of the missionary organisations.
