An attempt was made to desecrate the Tirtha temple well of Kolathodu Molancheri Bhagavathy temple at Thenhipalam in Tirurangadi taluk of Malappuram in Kerala. The grill and net placed above the temple well were removed in an alleged attempt to defile the water.
The incident happened last day. Water from the Tirtha well has been used in the temple for more than a century. The water collected from here is also used for puja in the shrine. The temple is 50 meters from the well.
A court is evaluating the dispute with the neighbouring house regarding the well’s surroundings and has stayed the case. The atrocity happened when the case was to be considered again on the 21st of this month.
The pathway to the well is completely covered with laterite stones, and the pujaris cannot collect water for the temple. The office bearers of the temple protection committee have filed a complaint with the Thenhipalam police seeking immediate intervention.
Janam TV reported that the police have intervened, and discussions are ongoing. If the police do not take proper action, the believers have decided to go on protests.
Acres of temple land have been usurped by minorities, who are the majority in Malappuram. Communist atheists, too, have participated in such activities to appease a few extremists.
Hindu activists have protested and approached the courts in many such cases, but the atrocities continue unabated, allegedly with help from the authorities.
None, other than Janam TV, reported the incident. What would have been the media reaction if it were a non-Hindu place of worship?
