After harassment for not converting kills a girl, now love jihad incident comes to light in Tamil Nadu

In what looks like a love jihad incident, parents of a 18 year old Hindu girl have accused a Muslim man of abducting, converting and marrying their daughter. Alleging that she could have been brainwashed by the man, they have filed a complaint with the police seeking them to rescue their daughter.

Tamil daily Dinamalar reported the parents saying that the girl, a 1st year college student, went to college on January 24 as usual. But they received a call from the Tiruppur South women’s police station saying that their daughter had married someone and is seeking protection. The parents were called for an inquiry. Police told them that their daughter has married a man named Azharuddin.

Parents suspect that their daughter could have been brainwashed or threatened and abducted. They have complained that she could have been forced into converting and marrying the man. They have accused the man of abducting and forcefully confining the girl. Reportedly they have filed a complaint with Dharapuram women’s police station, Tiruppur Commissioner office. When they tried to file a complaint with the SP of Tirupur those at the office didn’t even take the complaint, they allege.

As the issue of a 17 year old Hindu girl Lavanya’s death due to harassment at her  Christian school for not converting is raging, another issue of forced conversion has come to light. Liberals and Dravidianists are accusing BJP, which has been protesting in support of Lavanya and against forced/enticed conversion, of disturbing communal harmony of the state. The police and other departments of the state are declaring that there is no conversion angle in her case even before the investigation is concluded. So it is no surprise if police are not even ready to accept a complaint about a love jihad incident.
