BSF foils smuggling attempt at Bharat-Bangladesh border in Meghalaya, one smuggler dead

Alert BSF jawans foiled the smuggling of massive quantities of sugars and onions to Bangladesh through the international borders of Meghalaya.

Acting on specific intelligence, the BSF personnel of 110 Bn’s were vigilant near the international borders on Friday night.

On the night, BSF jawans spotted smugglers transporting commodities to Bangladesh near the international border. At the same time, a group of Bangladeshi goons gathered on the Bangladesh side.

The BSF jawans tried to stop the smugglers, but they refused and advanced towards the international border. Meanwhile, a group of smugglers suddenly turned violent and attacked the BSF jawans. Some also threw stones at the jawans.

As per the reports, the smugglers attacked BSF jawans with iron machetes and sticks. Three BSF jawans were injured in the attack, one of whom was severely wounded in the right eye and had to be evacuated to Shillong.

In retaliation, BSF jawans fired several rounds, which resulted in the death of a smuggler. Also, another Bangladeshi smuggler was injured. Others fled, leaving vast quantities of sugar and onions.
