Woman tortured in Chopra, accused Tajimul Islam is sent to five days of police custody

After the horrific case of the woman who was tortured openly went viral, the Police arrested influential TMC worker and local mafia Tajimul Islam on the 30th of June, Sunday. Today, he is sent to five days of police custody.

The Police registered a case on the basis of the viral video, where Tajimul was seen beating a woman mercilessly. He was arrested from the Dighalgaon village under the Lakhipur Gram Panchayat of the North dinajpur district.

Tajimul Islam is famous in the area as ‘JCB’. Locals said that Tajimul alias JCB used to organize ‘Kangaroo court’ regularly. Also, he used to give justice of his own.

Locals say that JCB is a known mafia in the area. He has a good political connection with the ruling party leaders. He regularly organises Kangaroo courts in disputes of all kinds, from property, love affairs to extramarital affairs. Some say that in the Kangaroo courts, Tajimul used to assault physically. Also, he used to impose monetary fines.

A local person said, “In recent times, Tajimul did such things many times. But those incidents remained unreported. But, in this case, someone recorded a video and posted it on social media. That is why, the police had nothing to do but arrest him.”

A local CPI(M) leader said, “From vote management during elections to running Kangaroo courts, Tajimul did all. He also extorts money from local businessmen. The entire Lakhipur area is under his control. He has a team of goons. Everyone knows that. But, he has political backing. So, no one says anything against him.”
