West Bengal: The RPF saved 56 girls from being trafficked to another state

56 girls were rescued and two persons accompanying them were arrested from the train at the New Jalpaiguri Station in Siliguri, West Bengal.

The girls, aged between 18 and 31, hailed from the Jalpaiguri, Coochbehar and Alipurduar districts of West Bengal.

The ticket examining staff and the RPF suspected something when they found that none of the girls had valid tickets with them.

During questioning, RPF personnel found that the coach and berth numbers were written on their hands. The girls also informed that they were promised employed at a Bengaluru-based company.

The RPF found a man and a woman accompanying them who failed to clarify why the women were being sent to Bihar when they had been promised jobs in Bengaluru. They also failed to produce any documents confirming job offers during the primary questioning. Meanwhile, the the duo were arrested.

An official said that the investigation is being conducted jointly by the railway police and the RPF. The investigation is underway especially to unearth the human trafficking racket behind this.
