West Bengal: Alleged Bangladeshi citizen becomes Panchayat Pradhan in Maldah, petition filed in the Calcutta High Court

A strange case has been filed in the Calcutta High Court. In the petition, it is alleged that a Bangladeshi citizen became Panchayat Pradhan with forged documents. Taking note of the issue, the High Court directed the administration to investigate and submit a report.

As per the reports, in the last Panchayat elections, Lovely Khatun contested from Chanchal of the Maldah district. After winning the elections, she became Panchayat Pradhan.

Petitioners alleged that Lovely Khatun is a Bangladeshi citizen. Many years ago, she came to India. Later, she married a local resident. After that, she allegedly made several documents by forgery.

The petitioners also alleged that the name, which is mentioned in her documents is not her father. The petitioners also alleged that they filed a complaint to the BDO. But the BDO didn’t take any action.

However, the lawyer representing Lovely Khatun, said that her client is a citizen of this country and she has all the valid documents.

After listening to both parties, Justice Amrita Sinha directed the Sub-Divisional Officer to investigate the matter and submit a report within two weeks.
