A case of harassment in the name of religious conversion has come to fore in Lakhimpur Kheri district of Uttar Pradesh. The victim was so harassed by some youths to convert her to Islam, that she committed suicide by hanging herself. Now the family members are demanding justice.

The body of a minor girl was recovered from her house yesterday in the Sampoorna Nagar police station area. When the body came back after post-mortem, the family members kept the body on the road and blocked it. Within no time a huge crowd gathered at the spot and police also started lathi charge. The angry mob pelted stones at the police and set few shops on fire. The situation in this matter has become quite tense.

As soon as the information of this suicide was received, the police immediately reached the spot and are trying to convince the family members and neighbors. After the arrest of the accused, the relatives of the deceased are seen demanding their hanging and bulldozing of the house. Police from several police stations including SDM Kartikeya Singh and police area officer have reached the spot.

Police confirmed that victim committed suicide on Friday, and her body was found hanging at her house in Sampoorna Nagar police station area. The family members alleged that the objectionable video of the girl was made viral by Muslim youths. The girl was being repeatedly blackmailed by the accused youth.

The elder sister of the deceased says that the accused continuously put pressure on her to convert to Islam. The accused Zohid Akhtar and his friends used to harass her so much, that she got fed up and hanged herself.

The police have registered a case under POCSO and arrested Zohid, whereas three other accused are still said to be absconding. Here it is important to note that many cases related to religious conversion have come to light in the areas adjacent to the Nepal border.
