Sarfaraz & 2 others arrested for running adulterated spices factory: Delhi

Delhi Police’s Crime Branch recently busted a gang involved in making and selling fake spices in Delhi markets. The gang operated from two factories in the Karawal Nagar area. The police seized 15 tonnes of fake spices and raw materials from these factories.

The fake masalas were made using non-food ingredients, banned items, chemicals, and acids. Rotten rice, coconut, and millet were also used. Three people, Dilip, Sarfaraz, and Khurshid Malik, were arrested in connection with this. Khurshid Malik was responsible for supplying these fake products.

In the raid, the police found 7,105 kg of ready-made fake spices, including turmeric powder, garam masala, mango powder, and coriander powder. They also seized 1,050 kg of rotten rice, 200 kg of rotten millet, 6 kg of rotten coconut, 720 kg of coriander seeds, eucalyptus leaves, rotten plum, wood sawdust, citric acid, 2150 kg of bran, 440 kg of dry red chilli, colour chemicals, and 2 big processing machines.

The accused admitted to selling these fake spices in Delhi’s Sadar Bazaar, Khari Baoli, Pul Mithai, and other weekly markets. The police are investigating further to trace other members of the gang and shopkeepers involved in the racket.
