A 24-year-old woman from the Northeast part of the country was brutally assaulted, thrashed and dragged by her hair outside a ladies salon called Galaxy Spa in Gujarat’s Amdavad (Ahmedabad) by the salon-owner Mohsin. The incident happened on September 25 and the CCTV footage of the assault went viral on social media.
The woman did not file a complaint against the accused for two days following the incident. But police suo motu reached out to the woman with the help of a social worker and provided her with counseling, and the FIR was lodged against Mohsin, the owner of Galaxy Spa at Time Square Grand on Sindhu Bhavan Road.
During interrogations, it was revealed that the woman was Mohsin’s business partner at the spa. Police said an argument between the two had turned violent, following which Mohsin thrashed her and dragged her by the hair. The video, widely shared on the internet, showed Mohsin repeatedly assaulting the woman, even tearing her clothes apart during the relentless four-minute attack, sparking widespread outrage.
The accused is presently on the run.
On the complaint given by the victim, Bodakdev police have booked Mohsin under IPC sections 354A, 294(b), 323. The victim woman stated that she was a partner with Mohsin in this ladies salon and the dispute between the two started after the victim scolded a girl employee over a business loss of around 5K. The victim woman was not ready to file a complaint initially. However, the police convinced her to file a complaint through counseling. The woman thanked the police and media for their support.
Thanking the police and others for their support, the victim added, “I was told by all that it has happened to me today, and tomorrow it can happen to someone else as well (to convince her to file FIR). All have supported me though I am from the North East. Police have stood up behind me, and so has the media. I am feeling good and I thank all”.
