Kanpur Police arrested Mohammad Bhallad, a Muslim man from the Rawatpur area, for causing a disturbance during the ‘aarti’ at the Dakshineswar temple. According to reports, on February 9, after Friday prayers, the accused arrived at the temple with a group of 50-60 Islamists and assaulted the devotees.
Satish Mishra, a resident of Anand Nagar, Rawatpur, lodged a complaint accusing Mohammad Bhallad of disrupting the puja on multiple occasions. Mishra alleged that the accused not only interfered with the rituals on February 8 but also returned the next day with a larger group of Islamists, verbally abusing and physically assaulting him and other devotees.
Responding to the complaint, Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Vijay Dhull stated that an FIR had been filed against Bhallad and 60 other Islamists under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. While the main accused has been apprehended, efforts are underway to identify and locate the other suspects with the assistance of CCTV footage.
