The mainstream media is calling it ‘moral policing’, but what happened recently in Hanagal, Haveri district of Karnataka is nothing but sharia in action.
A married Muslim woman was brutally assaulted and dragged out of a hotel after she was suspected of being with a man of another community. The Islamist vigilantes then took her to different spots and gang-raped her repeatedly, before dumping her on the national highway. 7 men have been accused of this horrific crime, 4 of whom have been arrested – Aftab Maqbul Ahmed Chandanakatti (24), Madarasab Mohammad Isak Mandakki (23), Abdul Khader Jafersab Hanchinamani (24), Samaiullah Lalanavar (23).
The gang reportedly knew the woman and had followed her to the hotel. They recorded the incident, which took place last week, on their mobile phones. In the video, a man is seen knocking on the hotel door posing as the hotel staff. The man was heard asking the couple that he needed to check the room to see whether water was coming from the tap.
After a couple of minutes, a man opened the door from inside. Without wasting any time, the gang barged into the room and started thrashing the man and the woman, while hurling abuses at them. They tore the man’s shirt and rained blows on him. The woman lay down on the ground in fear and tried to cover herself with the burqa. But the accused continued to slap her on the face. They forcibly took the woman away on their bikes.
In another video, a few gang members are seen sitting with the same burqa-clad woman in a car and hurling abuse and taunting her. They also tried to remove the face-cover worn by her. The woman claims that it was at this point that she was gang-raped by the accused.
The traumatized woman didn’t mention this horrific sexual assault to her family or police at first, but opened up later on. Her husband too is now demanding justice. “They had kidnapped and inhumanly attacked my wife. She had opened up about this brutality with one of the family members. She had not told me,” he stated.
“I want them to be punished,” the woman demanded in a video appeal to police.
Police has found crucial evidence in the form of the victim’s undergarments at the crime scene in the Shiragoda forest. She was raped at three different spots, some 8 km away from Hanagal town. It has also emerged that the vigilante gang had done similar sharia-enforcement aka ‘moral policing’ earlier too – police have found an earlier video clip in which two of the accused, along with some other youth, are seen harassing a Muslim girl. They repeatedly threaten to expose her “misdeeds” before her family, even as she pleads innocence.
This latest incident comes in the wake of the brutal assault on a Hindu SC (Dalit) boy Srinivas in Davanagere for merely offering a lift on his bike to a minor Muslim girl from his neighborhood; the assault on a Hindu boy sitting with his Muslim cousin sister in Belagavi; 20-year-old Vinay Kumar being assaulted for dropping his Muslim college classmate to her house at Bhadravathi in Shivamogga district.
Multiple such incidents of Islamist vigilantism, including in other states like Telangana, Maharashtra, Gujarat and UP are being reported – as the mosque-madrassa network incites Muslim youth to enforce sharia and spreads rumors about ‘Bhagwa Love Trap’. WhatsApp groups are being used to coordinate the actions of sharia-enforcers across states, such as the ‘Behen Beti Bachao’ group functioning in Mahahrashtra and ‘Hussaini Lashkar’ in Gujarat that were unearthed last year.
Of course, detailed information about the accused in the Haveri case such as their antecedents and connections with Islamic outfits like Tablighi Jamaat, JeI, JuH, Deoband, PFI etc have not been ascertained or reported by MSM. The ‘secular’ Karnataka government, which is otherwise very open in directing police to act against Hindu activists doing alleged ‘moral policing’, is also in hush-2 mode while dealing with this case, lest it upset the ‘victim narrative’ they have assigned to the ‘minorities’.
Unbiased socio-political analysts can detect this clear pattern whenever a Congress govt comes to power – it emboldens the most rabid elements of the ‘minorities’ and gives them a shot in the arm to do as they please. The ‘Hindu’ leaders in #Congress know this, but they care two hoots as they know their families are safe (for now).
The hard truth is that many pockets of our Republic such as Nuh/Mewat, Bhiwandi, Malappuram, Jahangirpuri in Delhi, Ambur, Malda, Shamli, Old Hyderabad, Kashmir are already following a form of sharia…maybe not as extreme as the Taliban kind (or the Muslim woman in Haveri would have been stoned to death after being gang-raped), but a dark future beckons unless corrective action is taken now and the Islamist indoctrination machinery is dismantled.
