In a distressing incident from Udham Singh Nagar, Uttarakhand, a grave situation has emerged at the Bharamal Temple near the India-Nepal border. Tragically, two individuals, including Baba, were found dead, while another sevadar sustained severe injuries in an attack that occurred during the night.
The assailants responsible for the crime are currently on the run. Local authorities have taken control of the crime scene, investigating the circumstances surrounding the deaths. Notably, this is not the first time such an incident has occurred. Even in 2002, another Baba was murdered at the same temple, and the details of that case remain undisclosed.
Situated in the marginal Surai forest range of Khatima assembly constituency, the Siddha Baba Bharamal Dham has been marred by the recent murders of Mahant Baba Hari Giri Maharaj and a sevadar at the Bharamal Baba Samadhi site. Panic has spread in the area, prompting the intervention of top officials and law enforcement.
According to the injured sevadar, Nanhe Baba, the attack took place around midnight and was carried out by three individuals. The assailants targeted people who were sleeping at different places in the ashram, resulting in the immediate deaths of the chief Mahant and another individual named Rupa. The third person, Jagdish, escaped into the dense forest to evade the attackers.
The Bharamal Samadhi Dham holds significant religious importance, with even Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami having faith in its sanctity. The incident has posed a considerable challenge for the administration, prompting the deployment of top district officials to the site for investigation. A forensic team is also on the scene to uncover the details of the tragic event.
Injured sevadar Nanhe Baba has been admitted to Khatima Civil Hospital for treatment, with medical professionals reporting his condition as stable. Senior Superintendent of Police Manjunath TC assured devotees that the police would conduct a thorough investigation, utilizing camera traps, a dog squad, and a forensic team to collect evidence. Initial observations suggest a possible motive for robbery in this disturbing incident. Local MLA Bhuvan Kapri, expressing anger over the incident, raised questions about law and order in the area.
