Kanpur: The ‘land’ which was an example of communal harmony has occupied by Muslims in the name of Tazia procession

In Ludhaura, Kanpur, the police investigated three communal incidents recently, where in two incidents have been resolved amicably, the third one speaks a lot about the impact of demographic changes in the society.

The Imam Chowki at Basheerganj, which the Muslim side is claiming of their own, actually belongs to the Hindus. The investigation has revealed that 36 years ago, when the Tazia was unable to rise due to heavy rains, the Hindus had given this place to the Muslim side, but later on, they illegally occupied it and started using it for their religious processions.

Joint Commissioner of Police Anand Prakash Tiwari told that the Akhara Seva Samiti has been managed by Ganesh Das Sonkar and if he does not give permission to keep Tazia, the Muslims have to evict the place and keep their Tazia somewhere else.

The Police has made it clear that there is no existence of Imam Chowki here, rather this place is owned by the Hindus since many decades. It was Hindus who allowed Muslims to prepare and keep their Tazia under the Basirganj Pakad tree. 36 years ago, due to rain, the place was submerged in water, then Swami Shri Shiv Narayan Ji, the prestigious Sant Samaj Gurdwara Seva Samiti gave permission to Muslims to keep their Tazia in its premises.

The Samiti has an Akhara, Gurudwara, six rooms and a garden in an area of four bighas. The Muslims were used to keep their Tazia in this complex, where an idol of Hanuman Bhagwan was also installed. Incidentally, there was heavy rainfall for the next two years as well and the Tazias were kept here.

The management Akhada and local people didn’t object, which encouraged the Muslim, who used this complex as a permanent fixture for their Tazia procession, and they later renamed this place as Imam Chowki. Later, Muslim occupied this land illegally and created a wall which separates the Akhara and the Imam Chowki.
