A case has been registered against 21 people from the Muslim community for pelting stones at a procession taken out on the occasion of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar’s birth anniversary on Sunday (April 14). Seven people have been arrested so far in this case.
The arrested individuals are Sahil Lala Bagwan, Sameer Lala Bagwan, Isak Mistry, Kallu Pathan, Vihaan Bagwan, Kausar Mussa Khatik, and Ajya Khatik. The case has been registered under sections 143, 146, 147, 149, 295, and 296 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), along with several other relevant sections and laws.
According to local reports, the incident occurred on the evening of April 14, when the procession was passing near the local Jama Masjid. Members of the Muslim community stopped the procession and then started pelting stones at the participants, causing injuries to many. The Islamists even threatened the participants and warned them that no processions could pass from the area where a masjid is located.
Upon receiving the information, SP Shrikant Dhivare and his team reached the spot and controlled the situation. An FIR was registered based on the complaint of Govinda Gulab Nagrale, who stated that the procession was passing peacefully when some individuals from the Muslim community threatened and later attacked the participants with stones. The police have identified some of the individuals involved in the stone-pelting, including Papa Shah, Sadiq Shah, Wasim Pathan, Sultan Builder, Junaid Shah, Taufiq, and Shoaib. Further Police investigations are underway.
