Muslim book stall owner misbehaves with young women at Ujjain Book Fair, is taken to task by Durga Vahini

A Muslim book seller was beaten up by few Hindu women at Ujjain book festival on Monday, as he molested a young teacher and had been harassing other Hindu girls to share their personal contact numbers on a form. The video showing the angry ladies slapping him has turned viral on social media. It is being shared by some Islamist ‘journalists’ on X (formerly Twitter) with misleading claims.

As per reports, a Muslim youth Raja Waqar Saleem, who hails from Gurdaspur in Punjab, was operating a stall at shop number 14 named ‘Ahmadiyya Muslim Community India’. Where he was distributing pamphlets titled ‘Warning of the Imam Jama’at Ahmadiyya’ regarding World War III along with Elif Shafak’s ‘The 40 Rules of Love’.

The “Ujjain Book Fair” at Dussehra Ground, Ujjain is running from 1-6 September. It has been organized by National Book Trust in collaboration with district administration, MP’s Hindi Granth Academy and the Maharishi Panini Sanskrit & Vedic Vishwavidhalaya.

On Sunday, women alleged that Saleem was giving out his visiting card to men arriving at his stall, but was taking down mobile numbers of the women visitors in a register, claiming it was needed to ‘deliver books to them’. There are reports that some of these women were harassed by him.

As per Nai Dunia, he also molested a young woman teacher and grabbed hold of her hand. On getting this information, the women members of Durga Vahini and VHP reached the venue. When these people asked him about his identity, Waqar said he is from Gwalior. However, when his Aadhaar card was checked, it is found that he hails from Gurdaspur, Punjab.

The angry women then slapped the accused, the video of which went viral on social media.

A team from Madhavnagar police station reached the location and detained the book stall operator Raja Waqar Saleem and brought him to the police station. A case has been registered on the complaint of the lady who was molested. TI Yogendra Yadav said that they will be taking appropriate legal action against Waqar once the investigation is finished.
