A disturbing incident has come to light in Dharwad’s Maratha Colony, where an Islamist Mohd Sabir, a gym trainer, has been accused of sexually harassing Hindu women. The allegations have triggered outrage, leading Bajrang Dal activists to lock the gym premises in protest, while police have initiated an inquiry into the matter.
According to Asianet News reports, the accused Islamist, identified as Mohd Sabir, was working as a trainer at the ‘Fitness First’ gym. He is alleged to have repeatedly behaved inappropriately with female members, particularly targeting Hindu women. Hindu victims have claimed that under the pretext of providing training, he engaged in unwanted physical contact, including ‘bad touch,’ and subjected them to inappropriate and uncomfortable behavior, causing mental distress.
Further allegations suggest that the accused, Mohd Sabir, displayed deeply disturbing conduct by loitering near women’s restrooms and changing areas. Complaints indicate that he would intentionally frequent these spaces while Hindu women were inside, making obscene gestures and creating an atmosphere of fear and insecurity.
One of the victims, Shruti Bellakki, publicly expressed her distress, stating that such behavior has made women feel unsafe and reluctant to visit the gym.
As news of the alleged harassment spread, Bajrang Dal activists gathered at the gym, accusing the management of failing to take adequate action despite prior warnings. The protesters forced the facility’s closure, locked its premises, and demanded immediate action against the accused. They insisted that Mohd Sabir be brought to the spot and that strict legal action be initiated.
Police from the Upanagar station rushed to the scene as tensions escalated. Officials pacified the protesters and began collecting preliminary information. Authorities stated that an FIR will be registered once formal complaints are submitted by the victims, and appropriate legal action will follow.
The incident has sparked widespread concern in Dharwad, raising serious questions about women’s safety in public and private spaces. This is not the first time that an Islamist gym trainer has harassed a Hindu woman sexually; there have been several instances of such incidents across Bharath and Karnataka. In the Congress-led state government, Islamist radicalists and rapists are moving freely without the necessary government action. This is highly disturbing, and unless authorities provide safety for Hindu girls, Hindu organizations will continue the protest.
